KARACHI, Aug 8: Pakistan cricket captain Waqar Younis’ outburst
and threat on Tuesday has upset the administrators. According to
highly placed sources, the top hierarchy of the Pakistan Cricket
Board (PCB) contacted manager Yawar Saeed and Waqar Younis to
inquire about their point of views.
Waqar threatened Tuesday that he would quit if the selectors
didn’t give due consideration to his point of view in selection of
the squads…
well.......he ahs to captain the team....so i guess his point of view should be taken into consdieration.....but at the end of the day it should still be up to the stupid, ahem sorry the PCB board.
There's a certain amount of "friction" between players and i think that would cause majjor problems within a side chosen by the captain.....doesn't choose those he doesn't like....you would have to trust the captain to be as professional as possible!!!??!!!
i defintely think that he should have some input...suggestions....but leave the selection to the selectors

Its the captain who has to dictate the terms when players are in the middle... if he is not happy with the players, how can he guide them to a win??
Imran Khan used to have a big say in selection and made some good winning combinations.. If waqar can do the same.... why not!!???

Waleed dude is right … the problem is not that Skipper being involved or not .. its the dirty politics that comes along .. Skipper should have his say but it should be a limited role .. the purpose of selection process is to identify better of the bunch . and the ways you do it is through identifying and monitoring and analyzing players performance .. not through personal preferences it has to be objective not subjective .. like its done now .. the selection committee members don’t even bother to show up in nets and practice games .. and like Imran Khan was a good example he did his ‘Khalfa-giri’ as well .. players like Shoaib Mohamed Azeem Hafeez suffered at his hands and mediocre players like Mansoor Akhter and Zakir Khan made their way in the national squad.. but it we owe World Cup to Immy’s leadership..
