perhaps this is more of a philosophical question…but why are so many Pakistani citizens so very, very short-sighted?
the question arose in my mind as I was reading about chitralis wanting to vote for musharraf despite their individual party affiliations simply because they feel that they are “indebted” to him for approving the construction of the tunnel.
granted the tunnel is a tremendous blessing and convenience for them but this is not something that should make them overlook the bigger picture…
and yes…I understand that bhookay ko roti do gay tau woh aur kuch nahin dekhay ga…magar woh yeh kyun nahin sochta kay kab tak roti aisay millaygi?
^ maybe for us its a small thing but for them it was an issue, as during winters Chitral used to get disconnected from the rest of the country. To reach Peshawar they had to travel through Afghanistan. This tunnel should have been built long ago. Anyways lets see what kind of result we will see after the elections.
I don’t know what to say, you answered your self we are short sighted.
There are few ways to see what is not visible.
One is mathematics
Other is remembering the past, which we don’t have so far.
Other is reading about other test cases, cultures which not many people do.
Other is sticking to principle, some call it having faith. This solution is closest to us. Easy to use.
But its here where our smart-a@@ pakistaniet kicks in, sticking-to/practicing simple thing as faith is just too dumb for us.
Yet we are in the love with people who do it. Very strange behaviour.
Other than that I agree with you, build up a few roads, bridges, distribute laptops and a metro people would be satisfied. No one looks at the bigger picture that the law and order has deteriorated, health, education, infrastructure and economy are not at a satisfactory level.
I don't find it surprising that they would vote for the only party that has delivered, for this community at least, on the issue that most concerns them.
If only more Pakistani voters would vote for people who actually deliver results, we would switch to a more accountable political culture.
For this community it would be Musharraf, for others it would be Nawaz, for others PPP. But booting out politicians who fail to deliver for their constituents is the way it should be.

other than a "true and dedicated leader" coming to power, the only way that I can see the nation coming out of this mess is through revolution......a complete overtaking by the mass public.....where everyone comes out on the streets and says that we are going to leave nobody behind.....
we are going to make sure that every single mouth is fed......even at the cost of losing one of my meals today.
we are going to make sure that every single body is clothed.....even if I don't get to wear my designer lawn this year.
this is the attitude change that we need to see from within. it cannot be driven from outside......
people inside need to let everyone know that we will look after our own.
now the bigger problem is....how do we get them looking at each other as "our own" :D
I think another side of the problem is that they can only see what relates to them directly. They don't have the ability to see across the board.
I think the responsibility of helping them to see the bigger picture falls on a true leader.....not just a politician.
it goes both ways ............ its gud that they appreciate the work Mushharaf did over there. beside zardari era was even worst . it was CJ that stopped him a bit. otherwise he, his front men and awais muzzafar tappi are extorting money out of every one.
i personally don't favour musharraf much but he should get some appreciation for the good he has done. for the wrong he is already facing the fury of the ppl.
