Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

:salam2:

Those who are fortunate to attend ‘Friday Sermon’, are requested to share with us short briefs of the sermon, and that is to benefit each others. :jazak:

Re: Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

Peace,

Today's sermon was about having 'fear of Almighty Allah'. If we have fear in ourselves then there are many chances of not doing wrong things, neither doing injustice to others.

Re: Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

From last Friday - Moderation:

A lot of people talk about being moderate and how according to deen we should be moderate. Moderate isn't what is described by the media, such as a person is moderate if he only goes to the masjid once a week or so, but moderate is what was practiced by Nabi (SAW). Therefore, praying all 5 salaats, in the masjid with jamaat (for men) is moderate by definition.

Re: Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

Walaikum salaam,

Last friday's sermon was on coming of Ramadan, and being thankful. Gratitude towards each other being a way of being thankful to Allah. The Khateeb highlighted some facts, and some things we can do very easily in our everyday life as a matter of habit that would earn us much benefit in refining character, and being better muslims and it starts with being thankful for everything we have, and thanking others when they do something to bring us ease or comfort because he/she who isn't thankful to fellow mankind, parents, is not genuinely thankful to Allah. Another way to thank Allah is to follow the Sunnah because following the Sunnah brings about perfection in character because Rasool Allah (s.a.w.) was the best among humanity, a mercy sent to mankind, and because his character is mentioned as a model to be followed in the Quran, by adopting the Sunnah of Rasool Allah (s.a.w.) we would be improving ourselves, and in doing so obeying Allah (s.w.t.) and being thankful.

:jazak: for starting this topic. I’ll share more stuff soon :insh:

I’ll share stuff that we hear in the weekly dars as well as other khutbas (such as Eid?) as well :insh:

Re: Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

This one was given last year on Eid -- it was about appreciating the good that others do and in advising each other to do good. The imam was saying that today we see youth from different walks of life coming to the masajid. Many times we will see that they may lack some adab (etiquettes) of coming to the masjid, at times with their clothing, hairstyles etc. which tends to upset some of the attendees. These more regular attendees of the masjid often in turn tell the youngsters off for lacking in these adaab

So the imam went on to say that while these adaab are important, but we should be thankful that the youth are coming to the masjid when they could be going to other types of places instead and should therefore make the masjid a welcoming place for everyone. And when we advise anyone towards what is right, we should correct our intention--we should never want to reprimand someone for the sake of putting him down or to make ourselves out to be better than anyone, but we need to do so as his well wisher.

Re: Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

Peace All,

:jazak: for sharing beneficiary information. There are several reasons for opening this thread, but two reasons are top most and these are:

  1. A verse from Chapter 87:9 “Therefore give admonition in case the admonition profits (the hearer)”, and
  2. If we promote goods then there is reward for us and if we promote bad then we will have share from it.

To elaborate reason # 2 further, it is like if Person ‘A’ share a good knowledge to Person B, and **Person B **pass it to Person C, D, E, F and more, all person who will pass it to each others will be rewarded till the day of judgement including Persons F, E, D, C, B and A. Even in case **Person ‘A’ **died before resurrection day, he/she will continuously getting rewards till the day of judgement. Similar to that if he/she promoted bad, he/she will have share from it added in his/her account till the day of judgement.

I hope we have heard / read hadith pertaining to above explanation. These was the two top most reasons for opening this thread.

Re: Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

Peace,

This Friday sermon was about the 'virtues of holy month of ramadhan and fasting', with reminding how one should fast in true essence and what can he/she do during this month.

Re: Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

AsSalaamo Alaikum,

This Friday June 3, 2016, the sermon was on our relationship to the Quran, and its' rights on us.

The Khateeb spoke of building our relationship with Quran, and when we have found the connection, to use the guidance provided within Quran to the pathway of success for eternity. The Khateeb made a mention of the need to dive into vastness of Quran and when we're truly lost within it, and comprehend the fact that it is divine scripture meant to guide us, we will find treasures within it that give way to an everlasting peace. The Khateeb spoke of the love Allah has for us all, and how in so many places within the Quran, Allah address you and me. Khateeb made a mention of a scholar whose name I have forgotten, who read the Quran in search of any verse that might address him personally. He found that Quran addresses us all through Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.); however, in one part in particular that he came across in Surah Tawbah, Allah addressed him, you, and me directly by saying that Allah loves those who repent often.

I'm sure I did the Juma sermon no justice in how I summarized it, but it was very beneficial as they always are, AlHamdulillah.

Re: Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

Last Friday sermon was different aspects of Ramadhan and fasting during Ramadhan. Here are some highlights:

Fasting is obligatory for all healthy adults however in certain circumstances there are concessions
In countries with 22-23 hours daylight, Jama’ats have fixed their Suhoor and

Iftar with reference to the times in nearby countries.

For beginning Ramadhan and Eid date, “Actual (lunar) sighting has
superiority over calculations. “

People should continue to eat suhoor even whilst Adhan is ongoing.

Fasting in a state of sickness and travel is prohibited.

Fidya is not a replacement for fasting

For eating unknowingly by mistake there is no penalty and one can

continue fasting.

Shariah has commanded children to not fast. They are allowed to offer some fasts closer to puberty.

Re: Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

Some points on Ramadan and fasting -

Travel and sickness allow relaxation for a person, i.e. choice to not fast--however, we should have the important for the month of Ramadan and the fasting of its time. So if a person can fast without much difficulty during travel and if the sickness is not something severe, then it is better if we still try to fast. For instance, for a particular type of sickness, when it comes to work, is it something that would prompt us to take a sick day...if not, then we should keep the value of fasting in Ramadan in front of us. Same with travel.

To gain reward for fasting is very easy - we can prepare an item and feed it to many people and get reward of their fasting as well. On the other hand, the punishment for breaking the fast is harsh -- 60 days consecutive fasts to make it up or feeding of 60 poor people--and this is just for an atonement and not for reward.

A person who misses a fast without a valid reason can never make it up (in terms of its blessings), though a qaza fast will absolve him of the obligation.

Re: Short Briefs of Friday Sermon

Some excerpts from this Eid's talk:

  • Advice to the parents was that if parents want their kids to grow up on deen, they need to set the example. These days parents want their kids to be like Hasan Basri and Junaid Baghdadi but they themselves want to be Bollywood actors.
  • Advice for the youth was to keep good company, keep coming to the masjid, and to have a connection with the ulema, and to discuss with them if they are confused about anything or if they have anything on their minds.
  • For the "Ramadan Muslims", if you haven't been doing anything in terms of ibaadah or practicing deen before this Ramadan, then we have to be grateful that they began practicing in Ramadan. Even if they weren't practicing before, then we don't have to look down on that, but instead, we all need to look at how we have to progress. So if the coming to the masjid was something only done in Ramadan, keep it up afterwards and don't give up the good habits just because Ramadan is finished.
