Short Break

Living in North America, if you had the opportunity to take 3 or 4 days off and spend them with your only child at a resort-like location, where would you go?

Please keep a reasonable budget in mind…

Re: Short Break

Disney Orlando.

My husband and I love it as much as my daughter. The little one doesn't remember much obviously. We'd really like to stay in one of the resorts within the Disney complex. It's isn't that expensive if you plan ahead.

Re: Short Break

How old is the child ?

Re: Short Break

My SIL her husband with their 2 little kids usually go to a resort in Mexico which they love, I think it costs roughly $1,000 each for a week, which includes everything (ticket from Canada, hotels, all meals, transportation, etc). Once they went to a special Seaseme Street resort that had special activities and things for the kids, but even when they go to the normal ones their kids love it

Re: Short Break

Depends how old is your child and where in the US you are? In PA they have several child friendly resorts that are affordable, skiing n other winter activities available for kids. Even Caesars Brookdale resort is tailored to families and have lots of kid activities.

Re: Short Break

Depends on the age of the child. A 5-6 year old will probably be into Disney more so than ski/shop/rest. etc.

Re: Short Break

  • she is going to be six next month.
  • we live in Toronto.
  • I want to go somewhere warm.
  • $1K per person is too much (especially since we are planning a cruise for a few months later)
  • we did Disney in August.

Re: Short Break

3-4 days resorts and something warm. I would do a atlantis in Bahamas. Flights are pretty cheap. Altantis for 2-3 days isn't bad. I loved it because of the weather.

The water activities are something that the kids really enjoy. YOu can swim witht he dolphons. You don't have to stay at Atlantis if it's a bit pricey. Any resort in the bahamas would do. Only a 3-4 hour flight.

Re: Short Break

how abt Miami, FL.

Re: Short Break

Then go to California... San Diego, LA... lots of things to do.

Re: Short Break

hmmmm. SanDiego is beautiful, the zoo is really outstanding. Cancun Mexico has stunningly, jaw-droppingly beautiful beaches and some very good deals on hotel/restaurant packages.

What are some of her favorite things? For a combo gift for fathers day/eldest son's birthday, I got them 2 nites in a nice hotel with a swimming pool and pizza place onsite and tickets to a NASCAR race (he is SUCH a fan) with "pit passes" so he could meet the drivers and actually go up to the cars, meet the pit crew etc. This happened almost a year ago and its still his favorite thing to talk about. He keeps bugging us to do it all again, but THIS time, he wants "the brothers" and Mama to come too!

Maybe try to find some kind of vacation that will play into one or more of her favorite things. Does she like horses? There are lots of "dude ranches" in Wyoming and Utah etc. Skiing? Movie stars (take her to Hollywood) etc.

Hope this helps~
