Shopping in New York- Plz Help!

Hi Girls,

I will be going to NYC for the first time next week and I just needed some input in regards to shopping. If someone could please help me out with the following queries it would be greatly appreciated:

  1. Has anyone been to the Woodbury Common Premium Outlet in NY? (or any other state). If so what were your experiences? I won’t be in NY for too long so I am just trying to determine whether it would be worth the time to go out there. For example, how much could I pick up a Balenciaga bag or a pair of Jimmy Choo heels for?

  2. Has anyone been to the Century 21 Department Store? Again..what are the prices like and what type of brands do they carry?

  3. In terms of purchasing pakistani clothes, where is the best place to go? I have heard that Jackson Heights is good but could anyone please be more specific?

Any other tips/reviews?

Thanks!

I think there was a thread on this b4-

but sorry i cant answer ur first 2 questions- but as far as the 3rd question-

i suggest u stay away from jackson heights- because there gonna over price u and give u old fashion and cheap quality clothes.

If anything go to hicksville- in long island- its got great boutiques and the clothes are marvelous there- I just bought a new out fit from there and the style is sooo beautiful i will post pics tomorrow insha'Allah. But definately check out hicksville area- i recommend it to everyone and best thing is to stay away from jackson heights.

Hi Princess,

I went to the Woodbury commons not too long ago. Shopping is great there but keep in mind that they don't carry the latest fashion- if that's something you want. I was there for only two days thus was unable to survey the entire mall. But a week or even 3/4 days should be enough to survey and then shop.

I missed Jimmy choo so can't help you with that. Bags were very expensive, everywhere, considering it's an outlet mall. But overall shopping is good.

Have a fun shopping trip :)

i agree wid DD about woodbury common mall....true bags are expensive everywhere :( but if u go to woodbury commons dont forget to visit Godiva chocolate factory store,,,uffffff everything there is sooooo yummyyyyy.....

i have been to century 21 in new jersey....they have some good stuff and prices aren't bad either,,,

dont know anything about jackson heights when it comes to pakistani clothes...i never find anything good in any of the desi bazaars in new york or new jersey :-S

enjoy shopping in new york :-)

New York City (Manhatten) Has fake designer bags- or if u go to some malls in NY they have shops that have fake designer bags.

New york has alot of restaurants- google for desi food/indian food
u will find alot, from afghani, pakistani, indian, halal chinese, Thai,

I love Nan King its Thai food. Its really good. and in hicksville theres alot of Desi foods- so u can shop there for clothes/designer bags/ and Eat desi also :)

thanks for the lovely reply....where in manhathan i can find it...i mean any name of the street or mall (i thought manhatten is a very expensive place).....and yea can you alo suggest some good shopping places in new york ....where i can get shoes, clothes (western), jewellery

Century 21 carries a lot of big brands like 7 for all Mankind, Calvin Klein, Mavi, True Religion, Juicy Couture, etc. All of the clothes are either a season or more old. I've only been there once because everything looks like garbage but their prices were very low.

If you're getting pakistani clothes go to Hicksville instead of Jackson Heights.

By car it will take you about 45 min to get to Hicksville. By train a little more than an hour but then you will have to take a cab from the train station to the indian/pakistani area where you can find clothes.

Macy's and Bloomingdales are not overpriced but they aren't cheap either. They will carry stuff from this season and they always have sales. If you are looking for cheap finds stick to Century 21 and Woodbury Commons. You can also try H&M and Old Navy which is in Herald Square which is about 20 min in the subway from the financial district. Another outlet center is Tanger Outlets in Long Island. That's about a 2 hour drive from nyc.

Something very close to you will be the South Street Seaport, you can probably walk there. They have Abercrombie & Fitch, The Body Shop, Victoria's Secret, Express, Bath and Body Works, Guess, Gap, Foot Locker, Aerosoles, J Crew, Sunglass Hut, Claire's. They also have many restaurants and it's just a fun place to be in during the summer, you should go there even if you don't want to shop.

Fake designer bags like LV, Gucci, Fendi, Coach can be found at Canal St. which is downtown. If you take the subway, there's a station right there so you can easily get there.

Other places to shop are SoHo, Herald Square (very touristy they have stores there like Victoria's Secret, Sephora, Macy's, Sunglass Hut, Forever 21, H&M, Express, Old Navy, Manhattan Mall and many more).

For pricier shopping go around 59th and Lex to 5th. There's French Connection, Bloomingdales, Dylan's Candy Bar - famous and huge candy store, Sephora, H & M, Tiffany's, Apple, Henri Bendel and more.

There are A LOT of desi restaurants in Murray Hill which is around 29th and Lexington. There are a lot of Indian, Pakistani, Afghani and Bengali restaurants there.

where is canal street...i mean in which town....

^in manhattan.

if you need help getting around manhattan by subway, this is probably the most helpful site:
NYC NJ Subway Map - onNYTurf

and you can look at this map to see what the different areas in manhattan are called:

canal st is located in chinatown which is in manhattan.

Re: Shopping in New York- Plz Help!

I love Americana in Manhasset! It has the best designer stores! Rossevelt in Long Island is also good.

I also love Soho for its trendy boutiques. You should definitely at least check it out! If you're looking for good deals on designer stuff, Tanger Outlets is really good. It has a lot of designer outlets and pretty good deals.
