Shopping in Birmingham

Hi I’m new to this site.
anyways, i have recently had a very bad experience shopping on Ladypool Road in Birmingham, has anyone else? :frowning:

Re: Shopping in Birmingham

Hi,
I went into a shop called Meena bazaar about 2 mths ago, waited for approx 30 mins for a lady to measure us up for custom made outfits but no one bothered coming so we left the shop, we reminded them 4 times that we are waiting.
Fair enough they were busy but they lost out on our custom and did'nt give us any indication of how long we would have to wait, got the typical "two minutes, two minutes" but then nothing.

What happend with you? I think the prices are way too expensive of outfits in birmingham, we shopped in Southall after that and I thought it was a lot better, in terms of fabric and kaam.

Re: Shopping in Birmingham

i agree bham can be too expensive, if you liked southall you need to go 2 green st ur bound 2 come back with something.

Re: Shopping in Birmingham

Can you explain what happened. I have done shopping at Ladypool Road many times and even though I don't particularly like the place I have had no bad experiences.

I'm going to Green street this weekend inshallah, gonna pik up sum outfits we ordered from Southall first then straight there, trouble is I've done all my shopping so won't be buying anything, just going along for company, i'm so skint, buh hu!

Iv been to birmingham just the once ... and it wasnt a wedding shopping .. we went to the embassy and decided to have a day out ...

sad part is i personally found the ppl rude ... and in one shop i was asked not to touch an item :|

but if we had the chance id go again and check out the place again .. maybe it was just me that day!

and brad ... its my cousins wedding ... reply to ur post from the othe thread =)

I know of some other places that custom tailor, dharkan is one i believe and theres another i visited recently, a new place but i cant remember the name ... but like u said .. its the same old thing .. nothing original or decent! so i know what you mean.

Its this weekend so iv been kinda busy .. but should be back on gupshup my normal self come tuesdayish .. maybe even monday .. i took the day off just to recuperate, lol

Re: Shopping in Birmingham

their loose kapra is really nice but you need to look in the right places and henna-mehndi have really nice stuff too.

ps wanted to a bit colourful<:

A lot of the clothes shops in Birmingham are overpriced, the outfits tend to be similar in terms of the look/design. Most of them look like an explosion in a crystal factory. I find a lot of the designs very indian/bling bling but with very little of the quality kaam you might find in Pakistani designs.

As for their prices I think they make them up depending on how much they think they can get away with charging.

I am a birmingham girl myself and its quite shameful the lack of customer service you get in certain shops, the thing is during wedding season they know that if they lose one persons custom they'll be another along in a while so they really don't seem to care about the service they provide.

Soho Road is slightly better in terms of customer service, however I find the designs to be too modern or trendy and not very traditionally Pakistani.

I always have this rule of thumb when I go shopping be it down the local high street or in an asian boutique if I get mistreated or encounter rude staff I just take my money and custom elsewhere.

Gosh all this is making me nervous of going shopping in a few weeks for bridal stuff, I wish I had the time and the funds to go to Pakistan but alas that's not a possibility.

Re: Shopping in Birmingham

well i live in birmingham as well n yeh some shops do have rude costumer service buh ladypool road i feel is okay not too bad buh it depends where u went

Re: Shopping in Birmingham

Sorry for bringing up an old thread.

Does anyone know of any designer tailors in Birmingham?
i've a few unstiched expensive suits which I'd like to get sewn for a wedding.
so as long as the tailor is good I don't mind about the price.

Thnx
