Shopping for clothes - how do you budget?

Do you set aside a budget to refurbish your wardrobe at set periods of time, i.e. annually or seasonally or some other set frequency?

And how about lists - do you go through your closet and purge out-of-style or worn out stuff first, making a list of what you want?

Or do you just buy when you see something you like - no budget at all.

nope, no budget. Anything that is out of style comes back in. So it gets to be stored.

Buy them as and when I see something I like. I haven't been shopping for 2 weeks now and i'm very proud of myself for being good :)

I'm always browsing online (do most of my shopping online) and will order anything I like the look of if it's in my price range. Then if I like it, I will keep it (less often). I guess I have an unwritten monthly budget. If I've bought a couple of nice pieces and I feel I've spent too much that month, I will try not to shop the next month.

^ That’s a lot like me. Except instead of browsing online, I browse the stores during my lunch hour :sid:

I don’t have a set budget, but I’ll do the same thing, if I think I’ve spent too much money in a specific period, I’ll make a conscious effort to stop browsing and buying clothes and shoes in the next little while.

But my one big issue is I’m a bit of a pack-rat - I don’t purge from my closet often enough. I need to inventory stuff and get rid of stuff I haven’t worn in 3-4 years and that I don’t see myself wearing in the near future either.

I have somewhat succeeded putting myself on a budget when it comes to clothes, since I am not working at the moment I don't think I need as many clothes just to wear around the house
but when I do my shopping seasonally and when I am ready to go shop, I check online at my favourite stores first, and prefer to buy online, since my kids are not very mall friendly, and there is always a chaos, but for some reason when which is rarely when I am not too dead tired I'd go to the store and purchase 'my clothes' right before the mall will close
