usually in USA, when they say Asian - they are leaning towards Chinese, Korean, Japanese.

I know in UK they call Indian/Pakistanis Asians too.

12 died, apparently the guy is Jiverly Voong (name seems oriental), also committed suicide during the episode.

I read about that first thing in the morning. It's terrible.

First thought that came to my head, please don't be a Pakistani/Indian immigrant and please please don't be a muslim.

I'm not saying i'm relieved that the person was neither, but this would have made American muslims lives miserable.

I read from somewhere else, the gunman is vietnamese (can't confirm though).

Here’s the lastest on this very tragic incident.

The killer, believed to be a Vietnamese immigrant, then entered a room just off the reception area and fired on a citizenship class.
“The people were trying to better themselves, trying to become citizens,” the police chief said.
One receptionist was killed, while the other, shot in the abdomen, pretended to be dead and then crawled under a desk and called 911, he said.
Police said they arrived within two minutes.
The rest of those killed were shot in the classroom. Four people were critically wounded.
The man believed to have carried out the attack was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an office, a satchel containing ammunition slung around his neck, authorities said. Police found two handguns — a 9 mm and a .45-caliber — and a hunting knife.
Thirty-seven people in all made it out of the building, including 26 who hid in the boiler room in the basement, cowering there for three hours while police methodically searched the building and tried to determine whether the gunman was still alive and whether he was holding any hostages, Zikuski said.

how stupid it is to take away others with you. All that died had their own responsibilities, loved once, and were trying to better their lives. Shame on the killer. He did not accomplish anything in life...esp. when he chose to kill others.

And what makes you think that reflects the whole of Pakistan? Such a shallow statement.

On a sidenote: Baitullah Mehsud is nuts. He probably don’t even know where New York is, let alone taking “credit” for this domestic tragedy.

I was being facetious. Of course he’s nuts.

But think about how technology makes Bigtime Terrorists out of local thugs: we have instant news on the internet and instant communication via cellphones or email. Some nutcase goes postal in upstate NY, and a gang leader in Pakistan can claim he made it happen. Not even a Pakistani shooter, not even a Muslim, but Baitullah Mehsud wants to claim that crime for his own anyway.

Pakistan has enough real terroist incidents, yet this guy won’t even share the limelight with other nutcases… very bad manners!

This statement is like you and I making instant statement - “oh it must be a terrorist attack” in SARCASM… because the stupid America thrives this type of news.. it makes them feel united somehow

but it’s NOT funny to carry on a sarcastic statement and make it a serious headline news.

^This article is a reflection of the "unemployed" America. It's really tough for people to make ends meet. In the news they showed another white man robbing a convience store along with his 12 year old daughter.

How sad.

There is no excuse to justify what this guy did. The people he killed - what was the purpose? They were not going to help him give a job. They were in no position to.

We just have to pray these incidence do not occur any more.
