shoe rack

any recommendations for a shoe rack, for men
most of the racks seem to be designed for women and can’t hold size 11-12 mens shoes
I have a bunch of shoes, and a few boots and need something for at least the shoes
looked at this wheel thingie my pal had but that is a no go,
saw one of em rotating vertical thingamajigies they could work i guess.
your recommendations would be appreciated.

Re: shoe rack

X2, you are right. I never thought about it, but all my shoe cabinets are full of mostly my shoes and my husband owns maybe just 4 or 5 pairs :cb:

I don’t personally like the wheel thingie, only because I dont like looking at the soles of shoes…
Here are some which I think could take big shoes and boots at the same time. Usually, the top shelves can take long boots. You basically need something that is not enclosed.

Re: shoe rack

I am not sure about size 11/12 but we have installed 3 of these ikea shoe cabinet at our entrance. Its holds my 9.5/10 size shows pretty ok (I have only 1 out of 9 drawers :frowning: )

Boots are alway a problem, so I have installed regular shoe rack in our garage. something like this

Re: shoe rack

D6C how many shoes per drawer? i have seen those but not sure if they will work for me.
the garage thing, that can work, what is the effect of being in the garage on the shoes, wondering if it will do a number on leather during winter

ms F, for the wheel thing i meant this one

http://www.rakkudesigns.com/shoe-wheel.asp

the rotate thing could work but i don’t want to see the soles of the shoes, since it will not be in open sight its not a huge issue but i don’t know how well it fits mens shoes.

Re: shoe rack

2 pair of my shoes
3 pair of begum/kids shoes (depending on design)

We have everyday use shoes in these drawers. It conceals everyday use shoes and make look entrance neat/clean. Party shoes are mostly in the boxes (in basement) while winter shoes (boots etc) are in Garage mainly because most of the times shoes are wet with slush and snow and as per rule of the begum, those shoes cant come into the house. So we just enter though garage and leave the shoes on those stands. Works well for us, specially for kids.

Boots do OK in Garage in Toronto winter. We have same setup from last couple of years and leather boots are doing fine too.

Re: shoe rack

If you want to store them in your garage then you have more options I guess. That wheel one is fancy looking, but I’m sure putting the shoes in it and taking them out would be pretty cumbersome. It certainly wouldn’t be quick.
In my garage, I have one exactly like the last picture . It is very quick to take out the shoes (important when you are in hurry), and also keeps them dust free.

Re: shoe rack

its a pain for mens shoes though right. I mean one compartment that easily fits a pair of ladies sandals is no way going to handle my brogues.
sexist manufacturers. :(

Re: shoe rack

I think always pure wood shoe racks work usually they hold shoes weight and they are not slanted. I don’t like it when they are slanted. I like these ones in bed, bath and beyond.

Thanks X2 you opened this thread I myself am looking for good shoe rack otherwise my husband has a friend who will custom made it and it will cost a lot. :frowning: And right now I am not in mood of useless furniture.

Re: shoe rack

Or if you go little less it might work

Re: shoe rack

I like the third one did u get it from Ikea?

Re: shoe rack

These wheel ones are not good for men’s shoes for sure first because there is no space for big shoes, and they might be good for joggers or tennis shoes but I even don’t put my heels in it, it looks so much work.

Re: shoe rack

the wheel one I showed the link for actually houses mens shoes well, but it is rather large. i like the rotating one. only if they had spaced the thing far enough to accommodate mens shoes properly.

I have 20+ pairs and aside from 3-4 boots including snow boots, i rotate them every day. I don’t usually wear the same pair 2 days in a row. right now I have an expandable rack but that sits in the landing to the basement, you open the door go down a few steps and then take a right for the staircase, its sits at that landing which is a little pain because boots are on top which I don’t use. I don’t want to put shoes in my closet, that means I have to lug them upstairs

i have 2 hallway closets, one by front door and one by garage entrance, I am thinking of turning the one by the garage into a shoe closet with lined racks 2 deep, lower racks for kids and then begum and then myself. she keeps most of her shoes neatly in her closet in one of those fancy shmancy container store racks, but they don’t get worn often.

i was thinking of one of these below but while the can pull out they still look like they are good for women’s sandals and pumps only.

http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10021245&N=&Nao=20&Ntt=shoe

or just roll one of these in there and then i can move it out if needed. but its one level so I waste the depth.

http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10029931&N=&Ntt=shoe

so now I get to convince begum to let me mangle the closet by the garage door, or just set up my mocchi bazaar in the garage. hate wearing cold shoes in winter though.

could end up being a combo of most shoes in garage and have the idea ones that DC6 posted in the entry way. plus those will be good for my parents when they are visiting so they can have their shoes there and don’t have to deal with reaching in closets etc.

okay I am still thinking

Re: shoe rack

The last one you showed is really a pain  I had that one and after a year and a half it broke down :frowning: And my shoes are in miserable condition now, I am also looking for shoe closet these days.

Re: shoe rack

If you want to, you can purchase custom sized planks and appropriately sized brackets and make your own shoe rack. I had it done in our last house. You can buy 18" width for your does, 12" width forbhabhi and 10" width for kids. Because you can adjust the height, you can use them for boots too

Re: shoe rack

you are too handy, I will probably get the thing from container store, they have diff depth shelves, and the brackets can move up and down as needed so if i do floor to ceiling in the garage entrance closet, i could move it or add to it if needed. now i have to convince the begum.

Re: shoe rack

Lowes and home depot should have them too

Re: shoe rack

yeah they do too, rubbermaid has a similar system.
yaar ab aa kar laga bhi doh

Re: shoe rack

What about a Billy bookcase from ikea with doors?

We use an ikea tv stand in our hallway that we attached frosted glass doors to, x2. It's deep enough that it holds hubby's size 13's perfectly- 3 to a shelf, with three shelves on the left and three on the right. I think it's part of the besta line.
