i found out about 2 weeks ago that shaitan is a jin and his real name is not iblees but a kind of a nickname. :o
Well, it says in the Qur'an (18: 50) that he is a jinn.
He said 'No' to God. An angel cannot say No coz angels are just to obey. Only humans and Jinns have capability to say 'Yes' or 'No'.
i may be confusing this with something else.. but isnt iblees also known as the fallen angel?
His real name is Azaazeel.
Sadz: Fallen Angel is purely a christian terminology. Shaitan was raised to the status of Angels due to his Worship but was among the jins. He disobeyed ALLAH:swt: once and what a humiliation he faced thereafter. May ALLAH :swt: save us from him.
Allah says in Quran:
18:50 Behold! We said to the angels, “Bow down to Adam”: They bowed down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the Command of his Lord. Will ye then take him and his progeny as protectors rather than Me? And they are enemies to you! Evil would be the exchange for the wrong-doers!
Allama Iqbal has so much written on him including his famous “Iblees kee Majlis-e-Shoora” - an eye opener to those who fear ALLAH.
