FAISALABAD, Pakistan (Reuters) - Pakistan paceman Mohammad Asif has been ruled out of the Tuesday’s one-day international against South Africa after failing to recover from an elbow injury.
The five-match series is tied at 1-1 after Pakistan won the second match in Lahore on Saturday.
“Asif has been advised to rest for one more match as he has not made a 100 percent recovery,” chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed told Reuters on Monday.
Asif missed the first two one-dayers because of the elbow problem he picked up in the second test earlier this month.
Ahmed said the selectors would also look into the option of resting Asif for the remainder of the series so he could be ready for tour to India starting next month, which includes three tests and five one-day internationals.
“Shoaib Akhtar should be back for the final match so we will have bowling options but we don’t want to take a risk with Asif’s elbow problem.”
Shoaib will complete a 13-match ban after the fourth match in Multan.
The paceman was suspended and fined 3.4 million rupees (27,000 pounds) on four charges of misconduct earlier this month by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
His ban period started from the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa in September.
Re: Shoaib should be back for the final ODI/ Asif to miss 3rd ODI as well - Sallu
I think we need Shoaib back; Someone who can bowl out the opposition, a destructive bowler.
I hope he did take those mandatory behavioral therapy lessons for both his and our sake. We need him in India.
Yep, a destructive bowler who can bowl opposition out. But wait, the bowler has to be "in the field" and "not injured" or "not have an attitude problem" for him to be destructive. I don't think Mr. Actor fits in that category?

A big LOL at all the haters. Instead of getting back into the side at the start of the Indian tour, plans are in place to put him right back in a few days. Where are all the "life ban" claimants? L-O-f'ing-L.

Shoaib was playing for KRL in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The 4-day (Oct. 20-23) game ended in a draw. Shoaib bowled 17 overs for 49 runs and took 1 wicket in the first innings. In the second innings he was wicketless in his 5 over spell.
Re: Shoaib should be back for the final ODI/ Asif to miss 3rd ODI as well - Sallu
lol, I'd rather prefer he hit the opposing team... either with ball or bat. In the 2002-2003 tour he hit Gary Kirsten and bloodied his nose, albeit with ball only.

LOL at the haters. He will be back even if he hits half the team with a bat, he is that precious a test bowler.
So true ......

hey Khan Saab...
Allz gud here. I'm usually around, reading posts from fellow guppies. I am not posting as much as I used to since I'm already multitasking when I'm on here :). But I still keep myself updated from the interesting thoughts around here.
BTW, thanks for providing the link to the official HK Sixes site. I was looking for it :)
