i dont know guys why people blame actor…he is not getting enough support from other bowlers
Shoaib Akhtar te sadda sher ae!!!
Shoaib refuses to shorten his run-up
Shoaib refuses to shorten his run-up
Shoaib Akhtar has refused to shorten his bowling run-up, a suggestion put forth by Bob Woolmer, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Imran Khan, the former Pakistan captain. Shoaib compared himself to a jet plane gathering speed on a runway and said he would not compromise on his 40-yard run-up.
Woolmer was concerned about Pakistan’s sluggish over-rates in the first Test at Perth, where they were humbled by a massive 491-run margin, and pinpointed that as one of several areas that needed to be rectified ahead of the Boxing Day Test. Woolmer had termed the over-rate “ridiculous and very poor”. Shoaib, though, whistled a different tune and told the Sydney Morning Herald: "We’re going to go through our overs quickly. We talked about it. I’m not going to change, but I’m going to go back to my run-up quickly.
“I’ll ask you a question. Can a plane take off without a run-up? No, so I’ve got to take the run,” he said. “It’s how I generate my pace and everything flows into the right action. I’m not going to cut down.”
Imran had spoken to Shoaib in Kolkata recently, where Pakistan played India in the BCCI’s Platinum Jubilee game. “I used to bowl all day at his age,” said Imran. “He sprints such a long way that he could easily cut it down without losing any pace, but he would have more stamina.”

Someone go and ask him a question “Who will board the plane that is never sure of crossing Atlantic on the way from UK and USA”
Whats the use of plane that takes of after such long runup but then fall down in Atlantic Ocean aur poree team ko bhee dubo daita hai. Ne NEED to get 100% fit and have more stamina. Just as Imran said that he used to bowl whole day when he was the age of Shoaib. Shoaib comes no way near to Imran in comparison although Imran was slower in speed!
You cannot hire part-timmers to run a business sucessfully, you need to have fulltimers.
Leave Akhtar alone...he is the only beacon of hope in this desperate Pakistani line up. Atleast he is performing. Got a 5 wicket haul in the first innings. Trust me if it was'nt for Akhtar, the Pakistani team would'nt even be worth watching.
Sort out the god damn batting. Thats where the problem lies.
Mur jur ke Shoaib Akhtar ke ooper hi charte hai....
well said, Sharaabi
Akhtar is the only player that Pakistan can be proud off. Let him perform the way he wants to, its his carear and its his choice. Instead of telling Akhtar to shorten his run up, we should tell our batsmen to learn how to bat and not do stupid gay shots.
Shoaib does look like a plane. Fly fly away...
didn't wasim akram shorten his run up?
Yes he did, but he never had a runup like Shoaib or Waqar in the first place. His magic was in his shoulder and fingers.
I agree, different bowlers have different techniques. In case of Akhter, may be he is right.
I do not care if he even lengthens his runup, as long as he is ready to pay for the financial damages. which i am sure he would.

well said bro
given the current situation...shoaib is the last person we should b blaming...
I dont see any harm in reducing the run up, I understand what Shoaib is saying though the reasons "flying like a plane...Blah!" is just an excuse, its total loss:
1) You cannot use him for long spells, like McGrath or any other bowler.
2) Thanks to his comments and this kind of attitude he will simply shorten his career by 2/3 years for sure.
3) If he thinks his speed will get less surely it will he is not a 23/24 year young cricketer bursting on the International arena, Allowoing invitation to more injuries and getting tired often (during a match as well)
Lets wait and see what happens.
Whats the use of long spells when you are no longer effective?
Shoaib has always been effective in short stints. That his way of working. Not everyone is the same, not everyone is a McGrath or a Wasim.
Golden Rule: Do not mess with something that is working fine.
I understand that they want him to bowl longer spells, but why the hell didn't Woolmer "plead" before the series started? Doing it mid-series is a bad, bad idea. The kind of bowler he is, a change in run up and momentum can seriously affect his performance.

Performance and the Golden rule, hmhmmm
Golden rule for a team/ player is being a team player. I dont see how his run up will effect his bowling, everyone saw the one off ODI with India (Platinum Jubliee match) and before that during the ICC Champ Trophy, he was agitated when he was asked to bowl 1st change, Shoaibs weapon is speed, and I think he can use it best when he surprises the batsman, not firing away all the time and everyone has seen the signs of how exhausted he is once it takes it toll on him. He has the responsibility of being the ace for Pakistan and I think its time for him to use a bit of head as well.

I am, in no way, against this short run up theory. It's just that doing this during the middle of the series doesn't sound right at all. Let's see what happens.

Woolmer has asked him several times, this is not the first time.
First we need a good back up of Shoaib. Shorten the run up will help other bowlers to concentrate on their bowling.
