Shoaib Malik?

I just saw the Pakistani team for Sharjah. It has a player by the name of shoaib Malik. Who is he? Is it Shoaib Akhter, misspelled.

Shoaib Malik
Born: 01 February 1982, Sialkot
Major Teams: Pakistan 'A', Gujranwala.
Batting Style: Right Hand Bat
Bowling Style: Right Arm Off Break

Thanks suhail. What has he been included as, batsman, bowler or an all rounder.

Zaheer Abbas recently described Shoaib Malik as FUTURE START!

Pakistan named squad for Sharjah
khel.com, The News, NewsAsia

Pakistan selection committee headed by Naushad Ali took
the bold step of including rookie off- spinner Shoaib Malik
in the Pakistan squad bound for Sharjah later this month.
The selection committee which also includes Rameez Raja
and Abdul Raquib held their first ever meeting in Karachi on
Thursday afternoon at the National Stadium with Pakistan
captain Wasim Akram also attending as a co-opted member.

According to available details at the meeting while Rameez
got his way in the selection of Allied Bank pacer Muhammad
Akram, Wasim managed to have his way in the selection of
Shoaib Malik, a former under-19 cricketer who plays for
PIA in domestic cricket.
It is understood that Wasim also wanted to have medium
pacer Shahid Nazir in the side, but Rameez resisted on the
ground that Muhammad Akram would be a better choice
since he was quicker in pace compared to Nazir.
But Rameez conceded in the selection of Shoaib Malik,
which can certainly be described as a bold gamble by the
selectors, since the youngster is potentially an fine off-break
bowler, a capable batsman and a electric fielder. More
importantly in the last two seasons, he has shown
remarkable improvement in all areas particularly his bowling,
which has played a crucial role in helping PIA reach the final
of the Tissot Cup.

Still Shoaib Malik and Muhammad Akram can consider
themselves lucky to be in the Sharjah squad inplace of the
injured Saqlain Mushtaq and Shoaib Akhtar, whom the
selectors decided not to risk playing in Sharjah and instead
reserve them for the Australian tour.
Malik and Akram join 13 players who went last month to
Toronto, while the surprise recall is Shahid Afridi, who was
dropped by this same selection committee last month and is
now recalled without having got among the runs for Habib
Bank in the Tissot Cup. Maybe the fact that the selectors
want to keep him in mind for the Australian tour and that he
did take wickets for HBL in the Tissot Cup might have
prompted the selectors to give him another chance.
But by bringing in Afridi the selectors opted to leave out leg-
spinner Mushtaq Ahmed who played in Toronto against the
West Indies.

Shoaib Malik, hey I saw him bowling in the Tissot cup final i.e. Domestic 1-dayer Trophy.
He's Saqlain Look-alike as far as bowling action n variety is concern with the same MYSTERY bowl.
This rookie is a good future asset considering he can tinker around with the bat and a better fielder.
Now the Q is can he sustain the Int. pressure?
Its a totally different ball game, u know.
enuff or need more??
Enjoy coke cup in Sharjah.

Cheers,
Kaleem

Thanks guys for all the info. It was really helpful. All that remains to be seen is how he performs at the international level.
