Pakistan’s offspinning allrounder, Shoaib Malik, has been reported to the ICC for a potentially flawed bowling action, following his side’s defeat in the final of the Paktel Cup at Lahore on Saturday. Shoaib, who took 1 for 56 from 10 overs in the match, was reported by the on-field umpires, Aleem Dar and Simon Taufel, the third umpire Asad Rauf, and the match referee, Jeff Crowe.

“The match officials reviewed Mr Malik’s action during the match and have decided to refer the bowler to stage one of the ICC’s process for assessing bowlers with potentially flawed actions,” said Malcolm Speed, the ICC’s chief executive. “We have now notified the Pakistan Cricket Board of this step.”

Speed added that Shoaib would be dealt with by the current process for bowlers with potentially flawed actions, although he will still be allowed to play in the meantime. “This issue now comes under the ICC’s regulations dealing with this matter and over the next six weeks an expert biomechanist from the ICC’s Approved List will be appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board to work with the bowler.”

There is some potential for ambiguity, given that the current system is undergoing a review, although Speed reiterated that Shoaib would be dealt with in accordance to the guidelines as they stand. He will now work with an expert team over the next six weeks to address the concerns about his action, and he may not be reported again in this time.

“At the end of [the six weeks] the ICC will be provided with a specialist report on the remedial action, if any is required,” added Speed. “This report will be circulated to the elite panel of ICC umpires and referees for their information. If Mr Malik is again reported within 12 months of this initial report, the matter will be dealt with by the ICC’s Bowling Review Group which has the power to suspend a player.”

how much authority and influence do aleem dar and asad rauf have in front of these goras?? u tell me..

when these goras would have said that malik chuks, these 2 wouldnt have been able to say anything in return because of their lack of knowledge and also because they feared they would have been called biased. man, the whole of ICC is run by goras, it just has a paki man as its prez. it doesnt make any difference watsoever.

true :k:

it isn’t the 1st time malik has been called for chucking, he was cautioned once b4 i think during the sharjah tournament and subsequently changed or altered his bowling action a tad bit. i personally don’t feel he throws, his elbow @ the point of delivery doesn’t straighten until the ball leaves his hand so i don’t know wat taufel and dar saw that i didn’t :konfused: so let’s see wat the icc make of it.

Let see the outcome of this.

ICC must review its screwed up rullings and Game laws before screwing up the careers of these budding young talents.

I don’t understand the timings of these objection and filing of complaints to ICC.
It should have been very appropriate if the complaint of a suspicious arm action had been brought forward during a “Test Match” in Newzealand (That was the last test Pakistan played).

It seems ICC wants more more matches played by Shoab Malik to be be controvercial. Typical ‘Gora’ politics. :mad2:

Waqar Younis has been named as part of a five-man panel that will help work with the Pakistan offspinner, Shoaib Malik, who was reported by the umpires Aleem Dar and Simon Taufel, and the match referee Jeff Crowe, for a suspect bowling action in the final of the recently concluded Paktel Cup.

Abbas Zaidi, a spokesman for the Pakistan Cricket Board said: “We have formed a five-member committee which will work with Shoaib and submit a report [to the ICC].” Waqar, who was Pakistan’s captain when Shoaib made his Test debut in 2001, is joined on the panel by Bob Woolmer, the national team coach; Khizar Hayat, a former international umpire, and Ijaz Faqih and Bruce Yardley, ex-Test players.

The panel have six weeks in which to work with Shoaib, before reporting their findings to the ICC as stage one of the process for assessing bowlers with potentially flawed actions. Malik himself, who is currently playing in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Faisalabad, will undergo corrective measures on his action after the two-match series is concluded. If his action was reported again, he would have his case brought before the ICC’s bowling action review committee.
