Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar has had his ban from international action temporarily lifted.
The International Cricket Council have permitted Shoaib to play in a triangular one-day series in Australia, starting against the hosts on Sunday.
Last month, the ICC banned Shoaib for using an illegal bowling action. Pakistan appealed against the ICC illegal bowling committee’s ruling.
The ICC advisory panel reviewed the video footage on Shoaib’s bowling action and felt that he had problems with his action while bowling a bouncer.
ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya said: “Since bouncers are not used in one-day cricket, as these are called no-balls, it would be best to permit Akhtar to play for Pakistan in the triangular series, while continuing with the remedial coaching to be conducted by the Pakistan Cricket Board.”
Dalmiya said he took the decision in consultations with Sir Clyde Walcott, chairman of the ICC cricket committee.
He also said a video footage will be taken of Shoaib’s bowling action during the triangular series - which also includes India - under the supervision of international referee Cammie Smith.
The ICC panel would have a second review of Shoaib’s bowling action prior to the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Test series beginning in Pakistan next month.
“An umpire is always at liberty to apply the law if he feels any bowler is not delivering the ball correctly,” Dalmiya said.
