Hi All,

I want to know is eating shrimp is haram/makroo. Please tell me. I don’t even know the meaning of makroo.

shrimp are like prawns, from the sea, so i think they are halal

Some Muslims believe anything out of the sea/river is halal to eat some believe that only fish is halal nothing else is halal.
There is lot of Islamic fiqh behind both sides of the argument. I believe that anything out of the sea is halal to eat as mentioned in Quran. But I do not have any problem with the other school of thought believing that only fish is halal to eat.

The quranic verse behind this argument is:
5:99 It says:
"Allowed for you is the GAME OF THE SEA AND ITS FOOD, as a provision for you
and for the travelers."
