shiping from Karachi to Chicago

anyone used freight companies that they liked?
any idea about prices? lets say for 10 cubic meters?
I dont want to go to some port in US and then figure out how to get the stuff to Chicago, want door to door. is that service only available for full container or could they do it for partial as well?

Re: shiping from Karachi to Chicago

DHL is always more reliable, eventhough its more expensive but really good service. FEDEX is also good too, but I have used DHL quite a number of times and have been satisfies so far. What is approximately the weight, I have a list of the charges, if you want?

Re: shiping from Karachi to Chicago

ask99, DHL does container shipping?
i am not sure of the weight, the volume is estimated at 10 cubic meters.

Re: shiping from Karachi to Chicago

I have not done any shipping to/from Pakistan but have used the following two companies:

Crown Relocations: http://www.crownrelo.com/web/relo.nsf/index.htm

Santa Fe Relocations: http://www.santaferelo.com/ecs/index.jsp

Other that I consulted with are:

Schenker Relocations: http://www.schenker.com.hk/services/relocations/relocations.htm

JVK International Movers:
http://www.jvkmovers.com/

Both provide door-to-door service and, off course, it is possible to use portion of the container instead of the full container. However, price/volume is higher for less amount of stuff.

Crown Relo provided the utmost professional services with no hassle at all. I have yet to the see the results of Santa Fe services.

Re: shiping from Karachi to Chicago

My experience was getting books from Pakistan via air freight. Hopefully it will be of some help.

The best thing would be to talk to Freight Forwarders like Global packers and others in Pk. They do door to door delivery but from my experience you will have to walk the papers from the shipping company's local office to the USCIS office. They will break the bonded seal placed at the port of entry (probably NY?) "inspect" the contents and send them on thier way. They do take thier time in actually going to the go down and inspecting the shipment.

Re: shiping from Karachi to Chicago

mufakkar what do u mean by walk the papers,? in Karachi, in US? port of entry or final destintation city?

thanks for clarifying d0od

Re: shiping from Karachi to Chicago

X-2 you have to walk the papers over in the US. With my shipment, I got a call from the shippers to come and pick up the air freight bill, take it over to USCIS, sign it as the recipient notifying the USCIS to inspect and release your shipment. The USCIS will then send someone over to the shipping company's warehouse to inspect and release the shipment and then it will be delivered to you.

Re: shiping from Karachi to Chicago

mufakkar thanks and sorry for baal ki khaal nikalna, but doI have to do that at port of entry or in chicago?

Re: shiping from Karachi to Chicago

X2 no problem. You will have to do it in Chicago. I think you don't even have to do that if you allow the shippers to process/open your freight...and of course pay them an extra fee for their trouble :-)
