hi every body, i am a new comer here, but i was hoping u guys could help me out here.. i live in a Almost desi free state in the states. there mite be a chance of me getting engaged or some thing.. and i am horrified of the fact that their are no desi parlors here… i am not that bad at makeup.. ( or i like to think so) but i have a problem with the foundation. i have used almost every thing out there. but Very few suit me due to my t zone skin.. i (per advice) add moisturizer to minimize scaling in the dry area of my skin… Now heres the prob.. for some reason.. my foundations GLOW in the flashlights, and when i say glow i mean.. the face looks BRIGHT white. let me make clear that i cant possibly use a darker shade coz that makes me look real dark in real life, the foundations that i use look perfect to the eye, but the flash just ruins it.. in short my question is does ne one kno photography foundation for tzone skin.. are there ne other tips or tricks to take care of the prob?..
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
The make up that we wear every day is very different from the make up used for brides, because that is almost like "stage make up," made to look natural under bright camera lights. If you can find a parlor (desi or not) and show them some photos, that might be a good idea.
I use Prescriptives foundation and they'll match it right for your skin, so I would check that out.
And make sure to use powder to set foundation and avoid shine.
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
yeah thats what i was thinking but u kno non desi bridal makeup is real lite and different so i am skeptical
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
I agree with Sahar's reply, bridal make up is quite different and usually done in a way that it comes out good in photography too.....for everyday make up, maybe you want to try a foundation thats more matte or matched to ur skin tone - L'oreal Truematch foundation is great too, they have warm colours that work great :)
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
but in the end, if your makeup artist is a professional and you like their style, they should be able to reproduce what you want. you can show them pictures- there are tons of photos all over this forum and online too for you to show as a reference. and everyone does trials- so take your dupatta and shirt and get it done, so they can match it and you can both figure out what would look good on you. being desi doesnt give you special makeup powers :)
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
^ to what groovy said. As long as you have a good makeup artist she should be able to give you the look you want to achieve and help you alleviate your fears.
I had the opposite happen to me infact. I used a desi parlor for my nikah and she used some pakistani foundation stick. All was fine in the begining, but a couple hours later, my face was sooo shiny and sticky, i hated it. AND it shows in the pics. Total turnoff from the desi foundations. For rukhsati i am thinking of using a MAC or Bobbi Brown stick foundation topped with a matt powder, InshaAllah.
Also try using a primer underneath your foundation. It should give you a really smooth finish.
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
Thats a bit of a pain theres no desi place near u. Is it not possible to get some1 to come to u even tho it might be far away?Girls r right on here, a lot of the make up is stage make up which is very different. I personally use MAC and i have an oily T-zone.
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
that Is the main prob na.. there is NO desi parlour here.. there was One lady who i had heard does desi makeup but i went to one of her clients valima yesterday and i Hated her make up.. it was All false eyelashes and WHITE foundation.. i saw a gurl in the true match foundation there.. it looked real nice. a bit on the darker edge tho.. but i guess that will have to do.. i do realize that the photography make up is different. i my self am a photographer and that is exactly y i am so worried:(....
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
Awww well isnt it possible to get some1 to come to u even if it is from a long distance? Even tho ud have to pay more surely it would b worth it for peace of mind. Ur right Powder white foundation is neva a good look.
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
try blotting paper it contains a fine powder and soaks up any oily bits on your face... mac, body shop etc.
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
hmm yeah.. Gosh there is So much going on... due to some weird and totally Un-understandable reasons.. we cant really have a huge nikkah function..
( the main big-weddin inshallah will b in summer)... meaning.. on the nikkah there is just mine and his family.. meaning.. parents not agreeing on spending a fortune on the nikkah photography.. :(.. and me, always being the dedicated wedding photographer at various weddings REALLy want atleast a few good pics of the day.. and if the some thing basic like the make up or the liting is Rong.. i am totally screwed.. thats y i was hoping to get as much tips as possible to make sure things were atleast in order from my side.. the rest i will just leave upto Him!
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
ps.. thanks for all ur tips tho.. :). i really appreciate the thought:)
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
I did not have any desi parlour on our area when I got married. I showed pictures to Glamour shot make-up artist and had a trial make-up done. After few changes the final day make-up was much better.

Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
Maha - if you do not mind me asking - which state do you live in?
There is a MUA here on gupshup who recommends Bobbi Brown Stick Foundation in regards to wedding day makeup and photography. Have you tried it?
The thing I do not like with MAC is that it can get darker when combined with the natural oils in your face. Maybe it does not happen to everyone but it is something I have noticed on myself and many others have complained about it.
I am in a similar situation as you - I live in a state where there are NO desi parlours or MUA .... nothing. The MUA here are just not well trained to work with our features either..they are clueless even when you show them a picture of what you want. Due to this I started freelancing and doing makup on the side about 8 years back - people have always come to me to get their makeup done..and I even did my own for my engagement.
I am probably going to do my own for my baraat and walima. Just can not find anyone!! And no way am I hiring someone from toronto.... they want to charge me for hotel stay for night before (just incase they run into border problems) and also for traveling. Lets just say that it gets close to a GRAND .... just for makeup :( um no thanks. Would have been nice to be pampered on my wedding day..but not for that much...
Re: SHINE FREE BRIDAL MAKEUP!
punjabirose, I have the same issue with mac! and i'm combination leaning towards oily. have you tried estee lauder's double wear foundation? So far i haven't found a SINGLE bad review on it unlike mac and various high end full coverage foundations. I've only had it for about a week now and I think it's just amazing! it claims to give you a completely matte finish without budge for 16 hours. Of course I haven't had to keep it on that long, but I definitely believe it can! give it a go, if you haven't already.
