I seem to get them every single time I run. I like to think i have good shoes, warm up before the run and stretch afterwards. Still, every single time I run, I have to take the rest of the week off, since the shins hurt so bad. What to do? ![]()
This is what I read:
"Since the problem is the over-pronation, the patient should be fitted with orthotics and will likely experience relief as there is a high rate of success with orthotics."
I would suggest a visit to the podiatrist or maybe a call to one, to find out about orthotics.
Or I can ask one of my doc friends and let you know what he says about shin splints. Insha'Allah.
i'd like to know too.. i get them every time i start a running routine. after two-three weeks, i just quit. i even bought two pairs of shoes thinking its overpronation and underpronation.
from the googling i did, it seemed like no one really knew what exactly causes shin splits. the only guaranteed relief is lowering the intensity (run less fast, run less distance, run fewer times a week - make it so boring that u'd rather not run), and ice packs. tried out icepacks, and they do help, but you cant really wear one as often as you want to.
The best aid is to get trainers specifically designed to help prevent shin pains, they are pretty expensive though but you can buy special orthapeadic insoles instead which are efficient too.
