Re: Shifting to Pakistan after marriage?

Ultimately it has to be the decision of the two of you, but from my own personal experience I can tell you this:

If you want to give life in a different country a try, it's best to do that in an early stage of your marriage. Once you have school-going kids you should have settled for a place long-term.

My own experience is not related to Pakistan, as I have never really lived there. My wife and I moved from Europe to Dubai when we had been married for 3 years and had one little child. We stayed there for 4 years had an awesome time and career-wise it was positive too. We still chose the option to transfer back to Austria after those 4 years though, mainly because we wanted the kids to start their education back here. If I could turn back time I would not do anything differently.

However I know living in Dubai and living in Karachi is two completely different things. Had that position been in Karachi instead of Dubai I would probably not have accepted it. And I'm a guy who speaks Urdu fluently. So for you this would probably be much harder.

2.5 lakh is a very good offer though. :)

Re: Shifting to Pakistan after marriage?

There is definitely an exam to work at a higher position at the lab. I know this since two of my relatives work at labs. My husband is an AKU graduate, obviously he had to give his exams like other doctors.

Re: Shifting to Pakistan after marriage?

i think it might be doable for a few yrs...but guys are tricky like that...they tell u oh we're only moving to pakistan for a year....then u'll be stuck living in pakistan with an unbearable MIL like another poster here, for the rest of ur life. err just have a contract signed saying u will come back in three yrs...also if this opportunity is SO great, y cant he find another great opportunity in the US or UK. a little odd. its not like when he comes back to UK or US, the companies here wont count his experience in pakistan. its better for him to build a career in the US or UK if he plans to work here eventually, even if he has to start at a lower level here...because a person with experience from US/UK is preferred over someone who just came frm pakistan?? i dunno u can try mentioning that to him.

Re: Shifting to Pakistan after marriage?

yo forget everything. Why do you want to marry a fella who want to move to Pakistan..if moving to Pakistan after marriage is making ya feel uncomfy.

Re: Shifting to Pakistan after marriage?

Go for it! opportunity to live somewhere else is definitely an adjustment but you might actually like it. Getting used to the people and the local culture might take some adjustment but life's an adventure. as far as safety, Allah is protector. Jobs situation - again Allah knows what will happen. As long as your fiance keeps on updating his CV and going to conferences, etc he should be fine.

If you have money there are more luxuries in pakistan.

Re: Shifting to Pakistan after marriage?

I haven't read the whole thing but here is my two cents..I grew up in Pakistan (Punjab), moved to the us at 16 and moved back to Karachi at 22 since my husband got an amazing job offer at a company in pakistan( as a chemical engineer). We lived there for a few months and the Bhutto assassination happended..we were living in a very safe place but since during that time my husband was at work and there were riots, no one was allowed to leave work...they burned the cell phone towers so I had no cell phone contact with anyone (him ormy family in Punjab) for three days! Good thing a neighbor auntie took me to her place and spent the night with me at our house ( so very nice if them) and when my husband was allowed to come home after two days.. I told him I wasn't going to raise my kids there and moving back to the us... He agreed its me even though it affected his career and he had to further his studies and experience in the us to get a good job but I also glad we decided to move back here! Experience was good for a few months, we had a small car and we used to go out shopping, eat, and enjoy in general but had ro be home before 8 or9 due to security issues, but I won't spend my life there and neither would I recommend to anyone!

Re: Shifting to Pakistan after marriage?

Nasty, it had to end like that.

Hope and pray things get better soon in Pakistan so that people who earnestly want to go back and settle peacefully can do so.

'Tie your camel'.. People should also use their common-sense and not jump into situations blindly thinking 'no worries, Allah will save me.'
