Shiahism and Sunan Al-Fitra

Do Shiahs practice Sunan Al-Fitrah (Circumcison, shaving pubes, pluckng armpit hair, clippng nails…) as a religous obligaton?

We Sunnis practice these things as a religous duty because our Ahadith/Sunnah books say they are a religious duty.

Shiahs don’t believe in the same Sunnah/Ahadith books as Sunnis and these things are not mentioned in the Quran so do Shiahs practice them as a relgious obligation? Are they mentioned n Shiah Sunnah/Ahadith books?

Going slightly off topic here, I know Shiahs believe in the same Quran as us but what books other than the Quran do you believe in like we like we believe in the Sihah Sittah (Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmzi etc.)…

PS. No Sunni brothers post in my thread, I don’t want this to turn into a mudslingling match.

Re: Shiahism and Sunan Al-Fitra

Salaam Nosherwan,

Shiahs and Sunnis do not differ much as far as basic obligatory things go for example, circumcision, Aqeeqa, general daily routine rulings are pretty much the same apart from minute differences here and there. Actually, for the Shias there are always extra things to add to the list since not only do we follow the Sunnat of the Prophet Mohammad (saww) but also the ways and the sayings of the Twelve Aaema Masoomeen (as) from the progeny of our Prophet Mohammad (saww).

Shia book of hadiths differ from the Sunni sources. Some of the main ones that i know are:

*The Four Books of hadith, Al-Kutub Al-Arbah - work of Sheikh Kulayni, Sheikh Tusi, Sheikh Sudooq
*Nahjul Balagha - compilation of speeches of Imam Ali (as) from his era as a Caliph - compiled by Seyyed Razi
*Sahifa e Sajjadiyya - a beautiful book of supplication by Imam Zainul Abideen the 4th Imam. This book is also called Injeel Aal Mohammad (saww) or Bible of the progeny of Mohammad (saww)

I am relatively new to the faith so perhaps some other individual could help you more, Insha Allah. One excellent source of information in English if you wish to find out more: Al-Islam.org by the Ahlul Bayt DILP - Home
