Eight hurt in Shia-Sunni Muslim clash in Gujarat
AHMEDABAD: Eight people, including a police officer, were injured when two groups belonging to the Shia and Sunni Muslim communities clashed in Gujarat on Friday.
According to police sources, two groups clashed in the eastern Gujarat town of Kalol and set an Islamic school on fire in continuance of a fight two days ago over the Shias objecting to the Sunnis taking out a procession on the Id-ul-Milad festival.

District collector D.H. Brahmbhatt said that police had to lob teargas shells to disperse the mob that set the school on fire.
He added that the situation was under control and the district administration was vigilant in the affected areas.
Police claimed to have detained several people in this connection.
Kalol, about 140 km from here in the district of Panchmahals, has been a communally sensitive town. Major cases of violence were reported from this area during the 2002 sectarian strife in Gujarat.
