Unidentified gunmen shot dead a Shiite religious scholar in Pakistan’s southwestern Sindh province on Thursday, reports said.
Maulana Mula Bakhsh Jaffry was heading to his home from mosque when ambushed by gunmen in Kandhkot town.
He was seriously injured in the attack and died on way to hospital.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. Tension gripped the area after the incident.
Angry people and his relatives staged demonstration and blocked the national highway.
They were chanting slogans against the local administration for failure to protect lives of the people and were demanding arrest of those behind the murder.
The demonstrators opened the highway after being assured by the administration that the attackers would be apprehended.
