I recently made shepherd’s pie for the first time from a recipe i found online. The recipe said to saute the ground beef/mince till it isn’t pink anymore, then stick it in the oven for around 30 minutes with the mashed potatotes, etc. And that’s exactly what i did. Only problem is, when i took it out of the oven the beef seemed as though it wasn’t cooked enough and had a slight smell.
I was thinking next time i’ll just cook the ground beef completely before i put it in the oven, but if i do that would the ground beef get burned in the oven?
no it wont. you've got the layering of the potatoes and such. and to get rid of the smell, you could cook it the regular desi way, ie with garlic and a good bhoonafy for it.
We always make it with cooked meat, never put uncooked meat in the pie and never heard of it being done either.
The meat will not burn or anything, cause you dont need to cook the pie for long, only till the crust is cooked and the top layer of the mashed potatoe is crispy
Okay I have the mince done for the pie. But it didnt take long for it to cook and it isnt smelly either. Its the same recipe
Maybe next time you’d want to use bareek qeema.
I cant wait to eat it. Cuz it smells so yummy.
I made the pie last night and it turned out really good.
Only the quantity of aloos was too much for the quantity of mince meat, because I made the half recipe , and I boiled too much potatoes
GTG: I used Knorr beef cube ;)
Worcestershire sauce is easily available everywhere, just go and look in the supermarket with sauces area. Its necessary because its adds the basic taste to the recipe.. BTW, I put 2 tsp in half the quantity of meat.
GTG, beef broth is also available in cans in any major supermarket. And i also advise using a little more worcestershire sauce than the recipe suggests.
oh thanks sadaf.. knorr beef cubes broth sounds like a good idea. ;) IF I ever try it, then I 'll make sure I get the sauce and knorr cubes!!
maena: I was thinking of those beef broths too but I dun think that I can find a halal one in my area so I was looking for an easy recipe.. k so sauce is a MUST!! hmm thanks :)
