It's Sephardic. Religiously similar but culturally distinct from European jews.
I had a friend at university who's mother was a Sephardic jew from Iraq and who's father was a European Jew. My friend would always get a little bit annoyed because his mother's native tongue was Arabic - she would prefer speaking in arabic when talking to her family and close friends, but never taught him any.
He could just about make out when she was talking about him in arabic but never got any details.

There are two main groups of Jews: Ashkenazic and Sephardi. Ashkenazic Jews are the Jews of France, Germany, and Eastern Europe. Sephardic Jews are the Jews of Spain, Portugal, North Africa, and the Middle East. The word “Ashkenazic” is derived from the Hebrew word for Germany. The word “Sephardic” is derived from the Hebrew word for Spain.
