shellac vs acrylic for wedding

I don’t usually do my nails so I’m a novice when it comes to this stuff. Which is better? I want something sturdy and won’t come off/budge but something that I can take off with least amount of hassle after a week or so. I’m thinking french manicure since my mehndi will be fairly heavy and my mehndi/wedding outfits aren’t the same colors so I don’t want colored nails that’l clash. Also, don’t want anything crazy long that makes it hard to do stuff.

thanks!

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

Shellac and gel nails last a very long time, regrowth is the problem rather than chipping or breaking so I would suggest that!

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

Shellac is better than gel or acrylic any day.
It does the least amount of damage to your nail bed and is the easiest to remove on your own.

Most times my shellac manicure can go for 15 days without chipping and or growing out enough to be noticeable.

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

what do shellac french manicures look like? Are they tacky? I like the way the french manicure acrylics look against mehndi which is why I want that type of a look for the wedding. I'd rather do it in a way that's more economical, less risk of chipping/etc, and easier to take off when I'm done

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

If you dont have long nails or dont plan to grow them or aren't shaped like u would like them to be go for acrylics, my nails dont grow so I got fench done on acrylic (although it looked great on all my wedding events & all, I was sooooo sick of them by the time I was mid way through my honeymoon, I would try chip it all day lol and its very hard to chip but I kept trying cuz it had started to annoy me a lot so remember to remove them before u board ur plane and get into ur comfiest self because If you haven't done them before its a bit haevy) it is a bit of a hassel to remove them & definitely damages ur nail bed (I did them regularly for 2yrs and my one particular nail suffered in the long run)

If nail growing isn't an issue for u go with shellac!

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

Go with Shellac :k:
French Shellac is not at all tacky. You can always get the tips added on your nails to make it look sleek, gel over-lay is still applied to give it a natural look

Shellac

I had acrylics and wanted to gnaw my nails off in mauritius lol thankfully i found a place to soak them off!

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

Clueless :(

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

I would have posted a pic of my own but it needs to be redone right now so not a good example of how it looks for the first couple of weeks.

When is the wedding? If you have a couple of months to go then start getting the shellac manicures now and continue with the regimen until you are ready to stop after the wedding. (I suspect you might even keep it up.) Starting now will help your nails to grow and you can get them to the ideal length that you may want for your mehndi/wedding look. If you have nails that are brittle or too soft and break easily then shellac will help you to grow them out eliminating the need for tips.

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

My nails are definitely brittle but they can grow for a bit before they just randomly break (which Is why I don't want to risk natural nails at the wedding). I'm in a gaon basically right now for school so there's no shellac place :S (I can't believe places exist like this lol). I know this sounds bad (don't judge me) but part of the thing is that I try to keep up with my namaz so I don't typically get nail polish / acrylics. I really want acrylics for the wedding but I'd like to be able to take them off sooner rather than later because of the namaz issue. I REALLY dont want to paint my nails because I hate the way it looks.

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

There's nothing "bad" about keeping up with your namaz....good for you!

I find removing shellac is easier than removing acrylic/gel tips.
There are shellac products available that you do on your own if you want to give it a try. I think Revlon has a two-step process that doesn't require the UV light.

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

lol why would anyone judge you for wanting to offer namaz?
Did I read that right? :/

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

I got these done before Pakistan trip awhile back. I was gone for three weeks. Barely did any dish washing/house cleaning on my trip. So no chipping for the entire duration of the trip. But my nails grow fast so that was an issue after about two weeks.

If you want to be able to read namaz, maybe you can look into halal nail polish that permits wuzu.

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

haha no, I meant that I want to get acrylic nails DESPITE the whole thing of me reading namaz. People get nasty about how its not allowed and stuff so that's what I was talking about. :S

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

That looks really pretty! My nails are in terrible shape though so I probalby couldn’t pull that off.

I have the halal nail polish and it’s TERRIBLE. Like it’s great for your feet and stuff but it chips like CRAZY. I put some on 2 days ago and it’s coming off already

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

Just grow the nails a bit and get a manicure then nail polish. Won't that do the job?

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

In case u r wondering how French acrylics would look, just to show u here is a quick collage I made of my wedding days focusing on my nails (sorry the pics are a bit burry)

If u have any questions about it feel free to ask.

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

Yes, it comes off really fast but something is better than nothing, right? I always dreamt they would come up with a product like that.

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

that’s basically what I’m looking for. The acrylics I see are pretty big and bulky looking and square. Did you have to request something to get them this short? That’s not shellac right?

Re: shellac vs acrylic for wedding

Nope that isn't shellac, its acrylic. Well I have been going to the same nail place for almost 2 years so she knows I like it short (not to over the top which would end up looking fake)

Acrylic is basically paint kina chemical, which she'll craft it on top of ur nails so u can request it for however u want it to be, the person doing ur nails will ask u about ur desired length and shape (even if she doesn't u mention it) and will work with u to give u the desired results. It takes about 2 hours to get these done so go to a place that's recognized for doing acrylics cuz it needs some expertise to do this.

Let me know if you have any further questions
