Cool. When we lived in NY, I think it was around 2002, she had a big show at the new Asia Society Museum. But I missed it cause I was 9 months pregnant and couldn't really walk too well. She is one of the artists I get alot of inspiration from.

i go to asia society a lot for lectures

went for Asma Jahangir's talk on the state of human rights and women rights in the country back home..

i think in novel ways, thru art media , we can do a lot to impress the lessons of what identity and cultural peacefulness means when people are not totally aware of the history, poast or current and get mis guided by the manipulating media.

Shazia's work is a brave thing to be done so carefully by her in her field.

fine arts students from Paksitani and Muslim back grounds can learn many good idea from her work.

My daughter is now 4 and a half. And another daughter, 17 months. Yes, I'm an artist as well, but haven't done any real work in a few years, to raise our kids. Art is a very solitary thing. It involves alot of thinking, concentrating, planning. So I'm going to wait until I can devote 100% to it. Right now the kids get 100%.

The thing I like about Shazia's work is the combination of the miniature technique, the very detailed gouache and watercolor. And the more contemporary layering of imagery. She tells a story by combining past and present, Muslim, Hindu imagery.

Of all the pakistani artists that peddle their work (i.e. women’s strife in a style of a 5-year old kid’s water color painting), Shazia stands head and shoulders above those fame seeking khawateen.

I like women who achieve something, who make their own world, who express their personality in good ways..... who contribute to and influence the society in positive ways and prove their telant to the world........

Dear Saima,

u are right about art. i do a bit of graphic design and calligraphy, as a past time, & i can imagine how demanding the work can get when u want the best in producing a piece of art.

you are right. Shazia's work is all about collage of the themes and experimenting with diff media, esp. miniature watercolors. i really like Nemesis and anytime no parking, untitled & land escape 3.

your daughter has all the talent,
inshaAllah, she would take after you,
& be one of the next generation's great female artist.
