Shaykha

Re: Shaykha

The main evidence of the female-led Jumu’ah advocates is the hadeeth of Umm Waraqah. It was related by Aboo Daawood [43], Ahmad [44], and others, with various wordings. In it, she relates that the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) allowed her to have someone call the athaan at her home and she would lead the people of her household in prayer

Now do not go and start a discussion about if this hadess is zaeef.
You wanted to know the hadees which is quoted in favor and I provided you the answer to your question.
Personally I belong to the school of thought which favors women leading prayer in their homes if there is something prohibiting men of the house to lead or go to masjid to pray. I do not favor women leading a prayer for general public. I do favor women Islamic scholars because our mother and wife of prophet(SAW) , Aisha Siddiqa(RA) has quoted thousands of ahadees and she used to provide guidance to Muslims after Holy Prophet(SAW) left this world. Which to me is a proof that women can be Islamic scholars and teach men.
I myself learned to understand the meaning of Quran from Dr. Farhat Hashmi via her recorded lessons. Again I do not totally agree with all the philosophy of Dr. Farhat Hashmi. I identified lots of blunders in her lectures and her understanding of religion and her interpretation of some verses but it does not disqualify her to teach me Quranic Arabic. I respect her and pray for her to the core of my heart.
