yep, a straight razor def gives u a close shave, but the nai has to eb good otherwise they skin you at the same time :)
since I cant afford to have a personal nai for a shave everyday, I am gunning for the next best thing. Well probably not next best cuz some of thos ebrushes run several hundred dollars, for razros I am good with the fusion power, I must say I am increasingly unhappy with the shave gels and creme on a generic chemists shelf because they are kinda lame.
I will get an assortment and try em out and share my experiences :D
I only use Mach3 razor with Gel. I have used the gillette gel with glycerin. At the moment im using a gel called Sanex. Its really good to the skin and leaves it all soft and smooth with no irritation.
i use the fusion power...not sure if the vibration actually does anything useful, but the cartridges are great. it is impossible to get a closer shave than with the gillette fusion (using a fresh cartridge). after shaving, stubble is literally 99.99% undetectable when running a finger against the grain.
i've heard good things about the badger brush, but i've never tried one. even the fusion (so long as the cartridge is fresh with the lube strip intact) causes minimal irritation....so i'm not entirely sure what added benefit the badger brush would provide, let alone the rest of the fancy pants shaving gear (straight razor, expensive italian creams, etc.)
I am not suggesting that ppl start using straight razor…but there are benefits to use a shave brush, just like it is helpful to shave in the shower, right after a shower or atleast wrapping a hot towel on your face to soften the whiskers.
brushes have their benefits, and badger is supposed to be the best rather than boar or syntehtic
Now as far as cremes go, the creams that I listed are actually all english creams, and the quality does matter, why do some people like fusion gel, or edge gel more than barbasol cream same reasons
i’ve always viewed a positive shaving experience as being a function of a) maximal closeness of the shave, and b) minimal irritation/pain.
so i would think that someone’s prefence for a particular cream/gel would reflect that product’s superior ability to improve closeness or smoothness. i certainly can’t tell the difference between cheap drug store gels like edge/gillette/etc. enough to have a preference…just arbitrary selection off the shelf.
but i’ve definitely heard nothing but good things about the shave brush. based on your experience, what would you say was the primary benefit of the shaving brush and cream over standard finger-applied gel? less irritation/pain?
shaving the neck (particularly against the grain) is the one area where i could use some pain reduction…if a good brush and cream would help this, then that’s probably something i should buy.
i currently have a natural bristle brush, which is not as good as a badger brush. i was having some skin problems after i used my electric shaver too much and using the brush helped raise the hair, and just gave me a closer shave.
i dunno about you but I always hated the cold gel on the face for shave. i had bought a shave cream warmer which was pretty good, they also have a shave gel warmer which i have tried at a pal's place and that is good.
and yes based on my limited experience its less irritation/pain, and just a closer shave.
I have ordered my badger brush which should be here in a few days and will figure out which shave cream to get, easiest would be to go for ichabod conk which is local, prosaro which is italian but can be found easily or truefitt and hill which can also be found locally, i wanted taylors of old bond street as it came highly recommended but can not find it locally so far.
