Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

It’s not explicitly unlawful (haram) for the person to shave his beard or shave his mustache.

It’s an Islamic recommendation for one to grow his beard and follow alsunna, teachings and doings of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam). The one who leaves alsunna, which are the optional doings of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) is not sinful, which means he will not be accounted for not doing it. But if one did this deed, and grew his beard and mustache for the sake of following alsunna of Prophet Muhammad, in Islam one gets reward by that.

There are some scholars that considered it haram to shave the beard, but the majority doesn’t say so.

Note: We advise Muslims brothers to grow the beard for the sake of Allah. Also know that it’s not haram also to fix the beard’s appearance and length. Some people have exaggerated about this matter and similar simple matters like this, be aware may Allah have mercy upon you.

Allah knows best.

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

Who are We here? Probably a fan club of Mullah Omer-oo Ayyar! The sidekick of Amir Hamza from “Dastan-e-Amir Hamza”.

Man! these people make me laugh. How about the notes such as

Note #1: We advise Muslim brothers to stop bombing trains and buses
Note #2: We advise Muslim brothers to stop killing Pakistani Shias.
Note #3: We advise Muslim brothers to start speaking truth (for the sake of the Messenger saw who was known as Saadiq).
Note #4: We advise Muslim brothers to start being trustworthy (for the sake of the Messenger saw who was known as Ameen).
Note #5: We advise Muslim brothers to start being tolerant (for the sake of the Messenger saw who was known to forgive others).

I am sure these beardo weirdos will never understand the true meaning of Message and the true intentions of the Messenger saw.

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

No brother, don't misunderstand.

I said we encourage this meaning we are not saying it's not a good thing to grow beard, rather it is a Sunnah matter that our Prophet used to do. And thus it's good to follow the prophet in optional matters.

That's all.
Bombing, killing, ....... this is another topic.

The bottom line that one should remember that in Islam, the destruction to Kaaba itself is less than the killing of a Muslim unjuslty!.

So you compare and figure who's moderate and who's extremist.

May Allah protect our nations, ameen.

AhmadG, if it is your work, please mention it either at the beginning or end of every article. If it is taken from another source, then please do make a reference to it.

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

Shaving beard according to most Sunni scholars is strictly forbidden, unless of course for medical or other such reasons and Allahu aalim.

Unfortunately, the Hanafi (askimam.com) seems to be down, else I could’ve posted their view as well.

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

An additional view from Sheikh Yousaf Al Qaradawi. The fatwa is long so I’ll extract from his conclusion.

His view is that shaving the beard is makruh, rather than forbidden.

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

I have the following concerns or questions which need to be answered:

  1. There are many Asian (Chinese, Koreans, Japanese) male species who cannot grow beards simply because of their genes. What do they do to comply with strict edicts (Maliki) or why would God deprice them of such a Sunna?
  2. Men have been growing beards well before the advent of Abrahamic religions and also during the days of Abu Sufiyan and Abu Jahail. Therefore, why treat something so basic created by God as a Sunnah? Did God not create human beings different for a purpose?
  3. How do you differentitate the Muslim beard from the non-muslim beard?

Thanks

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

brings in the Amish beard question too...

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

Why is a religion that is supposedly in posession of the only, unaltered word of God so fixated on mimicking the customs of when that word was revealed?

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

Yeah, I laugh at those knuckleheads too.

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

Because the religion also teaches that those were the best of people. The Companions of the Prophet are excellent role models and Muslims should strive to live like them.

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

Because the culture evolved from the followers of Moses (AS), Jesus (AS) and countless other prophets and messengers. The followers are recognized by Islam as “people of the book,” and are, therefore, considered muslims.

I firmly believe there is a scientific reason why shaving your beard is not recommended. So, it only makes sense that God would send His word down to all His creation through the messengers and prophets. Moses (AS), Jesus(AS) both had beards.

I think it is wajib to grow your beard, innit??

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

actually i meant that these sectarians who keep unkempt beards in the hope of ‘looking different’ than the ‘Maggis’ aren’t successful.. orthodox followers of other religions keep beards too so the theory of looking ‘different’ falls flat on it’s face..

Re: Shaving the beard or mostache.. ?

So does the theory that the companions were following the "beard culture" of the prophets. They were following the culture of 7th century Arabia. Besides, the followers of the prophets had so much else wrong, why would one assume they had not altered God's master facial hair plan?

And surely using God's favorite and the best people of all time (the companions) as role models is admirable, but how far do you take it? Spritually makes sense, fashion sense doesn't. Particluarly when looking at the difficulties involved in shaving in the desert of the 7th century vs. shaving with modern conveniences.
