I have heard that it is desirable to give charity that is equal to hair weight of a newborn baby in silver..
I want to know, is it just a tradition/culture or its proven by a Hadith?
To shave newborn baby’s hair is Sunnah & I have read in the Hadith too.. but about giving charity that is equal to hair weight? haven’t read it in any Hadith.
Can anyone please quote the Hadith here where it has been written!!

I had the same question in my mind few years ago, I checked in few books and found the hadith, it's a sunnah. I don't think I can find you the hadith right now though.:(

I have read the Hadith where it has mentioned to shave a newborn baby’s head but I found no hadith regarding giving charity of silver.. so is this what you read about?? giving charity?? in a Hadith??

Yeah some one suggested this to me too for my daughter but as per my experience I have seen it happening mostly in families who do **Chatti **of new borns :) so I believe it's cultural not religious !

I think I need to elaborate my question here once again!
I KNOW that it IS desireable or recommended to give charity of silver weighing equal to the newborn baby's hair.. but where it has been mentioned that our any Sahaba, Paighambar or Nabi did that??
or any Hadith, NOT REGARDING **shaving baby's head **BUT regarding to give away the silver!!

i read the charity to be given should be equal in value to the equivalent weight of the hair....
also...the aqeeqa...equivalent of two qurbanis should be done ASAP...

I hope it’s not only for Shi`a but for all Muslims..
but just my fear, kahin aisa to nahin hoga naa ke jinhe main ye bataon wo kahain ke ye to Shia logo ka aqeeda hay.. suggest me what should I say then!! because some sunnis dont believe in Shia’s books!! No Offenses please!

^ two qurbanis for baby boy and 1 for baby girl.
Chatti is a celebrating event done by many families who have migrated from India. Every one has some additional or some less rituals. In this event the baby's mother side of the family get all the baby's stuff and something of gold to their daughter ( the mom ) and other family members give gifts to the baby. The family in which I got married had the ritual of Godh bharai in it on the other hand I recently attended a similar function in which only meal made from aqiqa meat was served and there were no fancy rituals . I don't want to offend anyone is liye I am keeping it short.
