The movie was produced in 1977 by Satyajit Ray showing sins of chess in Nawab culture of UP, etc during fall of Mughal dynasty.

The question is why chess players have been depicted in negative light (idle… kaam ke na kaaj ke) in this movie and many other production.

Is it something inherent in such games that made people believe that ‘padho ge likho ge bano ge nawaab, khelo ge koodo ge ho ge kharaab’

why didn’t you ask that question from person who issued that fatwa?

Chess is a non-Arab game, and Arabs loved and still loves to hate non-Arab things
