Sharmana is totally eastern concept?

In a book, a Pakistani man asks a German lady (associated with health mission) that how come she is sharmaing like eastern ladies? The German lady replies that she spent lot of time among immigrants from northern Africa (Muslims / Moors of Spain and Morocco).

I thought how come a European lady attributed all this to eastern society. There are words like ‘blush’‘Abash’, etc in English and might be equivalent words in other European languages. :hmmm:

Re: Sharmana is totally eastern concept?

Blushing is a very old concept in the western world , however its not confined to just romanticism. People here blush when they are being spoken well of. Some blush when they get told they are looking good etc..

Its more like a fine line between shying and blushing .. however in the eastern culture its more or less is seen a romantic quality :hmmm:

Re: Sharmana is totally eastern concept?

eastern ladies always express shyness while being praised by a man (for looks, etc) with comments like 'ooi maa... mat karen aisi baten.. hamen sharm aati hai' . Is this true for western ladies as well. or they just behave normal in such circumstances. What is equivalent of 'ooi maa' in English?

Eastern ladies also used to chew dupatte ka kona in such circumstances. any such abnormal signs in western ladies?

:rotfl: at ‘ooi maa’
Who talks like that nowadays?!
