Sharing Problem in Domain Computers

I have a query..

There are some recently joined computers to the domain. All users are just given USER LEVEL access to the computers. Now the problem is that users are unable to make shares. infact the Sharing tab doesnt appear. Now how can this be fixed using some policy or settings.

Kindly give me input soon as possible.

Re: Sharing Problem in Domain Computers

CB, if all workstations are in the same OU there shouldn’t be any changes between newer and older PC’s (I’m assuming XP Pro throughout). So if a user can share stuff on an older PC they should be able to share on new PC.
You can try out the article below and that may be what’s causing the prob (Ofcourse this is only if the PC is not part of the domain):

If it does let me know and we should be able to do a GPO script.

Re: Sharing Problem in Domain Computers

Thanx my beloved Tofi bhayee and my beloved Mughal bhayee..

The problem is that. If a domain user account or a group exists in LOCAL user group, then he CANT share the folder. So just to avoid some complexities we have given all the DOMAIN USERS only LOCAL USER level access to computer. I have consulted with some one here, and he says that it can only be enabled if you add them in POWER USERS group.
There are no GPO whatsoever applied on that OU other than providing PROXY SETTINGS and DISABLING MESSENGERS.

Actually we wanted to disallow users to be able to install Messengers and stuff like that. So what we MIGHT/WILL do now is that to add all the user in Power Users group and then set FILE SYSTEM permissions to Remove MODIFY on C:\Program Files.

Now what do you guys say. THanx for all the help and concern.

TB tell me more about GPO scripting as well. I wanna learn that now… Hay TB now we have got IBM BLADE CENTER under our hands now. Boy they are cool machines :k: really cool.

Re: Sharing Problem in Domain Computers

GPO scripting nahin, what i meant was u can have GPO's auto refresh or run the gpupdate commands on demand to change settings. But there is WMI scripting which I need to get my hands dirty with. I'm usually a batch/Kixtart/WSH fan as far as scripting is concerned.
