We recently moved, but in my old neighborhood, my next door neighbors were Nigerian Christians, but still loved traditional Indo/Pak iftari practices that they experienced growing up in Africa. Then my gora neighbors across the street with whom we were really friendly saw and wanted in too lol, so once or twice during Ramadan I’d make up Iftari Platters to send to them…I’d include samosas, chicken patties, a bowl of cut up fruit and kajoor.
Now that we’ve moved, I’ve had some friendly hi/hellos with some of the neighbors, but haven’t gotten super close with anyone yet, so I’m thinking about starting this practice again, with a note attached describing what’s on the platter and what iftar is.
Do you see it as a positive, or would it be strange to receive a platter of food from someone you don’t know?
Re: Sharing Iftar/Ramadan feasts with non muslim neighbors
Khattichic i think its an awesome idea. It’s great way to introduce this to them as well as break the ice. Everyone likes feasts and get togethers with food. This way you are also introducing them to the culture and they will have better understanding especially if they dont know other desi muslims. I don’t think it’s strange. Neighbours often invite us for festivals that are in their culture. It’s also a memorable way to introduce yourself. In the beginning they won’t know u but then they will come to know u.

Sort of yes. we recently moved as well and on one side we have a kurdish muslim women which is cool and the food sharing is already happening but on the other side it’s the damn fat chavs who have moved in around a week ago so no samosay for them.

I think it’s a great idea. My next door neighbour is an old couple and they always look forward to Ramzaan I think. The man already reminded me to make him tandoori chicken. He’s sweet
