LAHORE, April 28: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday urged army generals to choose between Pakistan and Gen Pervez Musharraf who, he alleged, was bent upon destroying the army as an institution.
In a telephonic address from London to party leaders and workers here, Mr Sharif also criticised the Chaudhrys of Gujrat for their support to the “dictator” and statements that they would re-elect him for another 10 terms as president.
The PML-N leader appeared unhappy over reports suggesting that Benazir Bhutto was willing to have a working relationship with Gen Musharraf.
He lent full support to the ongoing struggle for the independence of the judiciary and hoped that judges would also change their attitude towards dictatorship. He directed party activists to accord a rousing welcome to Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on his visit to Lahore on May 5.
Punjab PML-N president Zulfikar Khosa presided over the meeting of the party leaders where ideas were discussed about receiving the CJP during his Rawalpindi-Lahore journey.
Lashing out at Gen Musharraf, Mr Sharif said time was fast approaching when those responsible for banishing the popular leadership would be looking for sanctuaries in foreign countries. But for that to happen, he said, the PML-N must stay steadfast in its determination.
He said Gen Musharraf had committed an unpardonable offence because of which a deal with him was “unthinkable”. He said the country needed leaders, not dealers at this juncture. He said he would never cooperate with those who had violated the Constitution and people’s mandate (by overthrowing an elected government).Referring to an interview by Ms Bhutto to a newspaper in which she reportedly indicated that as prime minister she would work with President Musharraf, Mr Sharif recalled that only a few days ago a PPP delegation led by Amim Fahim had called on him to reassure that the PPP was not going to strike any deal with Gen Musharraf.

Nawaz has been condemning the Generals upto now, and how he is calling upon them to in effect rescue the country. I think it has a lot to do with the fast emerging scenario where BB has dumped him for the President-General and has been predicted for many years. Nawaz speaks from a point of utter desperation and humiliation. What a sorry and pathetic person.
Mark my words, in a few months time Nawaz Sharif himself will make a deal with President-General Musharraf, in the "interests of Pakistani democracy", because if he does not his party will disappear into history. Following BB's deal with the generals, others like Maulana Fazlur Rehman are also making similar noises of understandings and such.
Its simple, in parties ka paisey muq rahey hain, because of not being in power for so long and they'd do anything to get access to some moolah now, hence the striking deals with the jarnaals and all
Bhai, what have you written? You can blame Nawaz for anything but not this. Believe me! he is completely innocent of this tohmat :halo:
Nawaz never supported Zia. Nawaz was a non-entity, how he could have supported Zia? Neither Zia could have ever needed support from a non-entity like Nawaz. Actually, Zia looked at Nawaz, liked him, made him his adopted son, introduced public office to him, gave him ministries, taught him whatever little Nawaz knows about power and politics, then Zia later used him to run Zia’s created Muslim League. That is the story of Nawaz-ul-Haq … errrrrrrr ……. I mean, Nawaz Shareef
Nawaz turning to his old friend; Generals :)
He was raised and came into power with the help of Generals no wonder he is looking back to them after getting ditched by BB. Basically Nawaz is only doing the politics of "reaction".
Poor guy.... BB used him to push her car....and once BB's car is jump started, she left Nawaz at place called "no where" :)
Nawaz sharif is a bloody bhagora - when the time came for him do repay for all his deeds he did, instead of accepting the consequences he ran of to Saudi Arabia..WE DONT WANT SUCH LEADER WHO LEAVES A COUNTRY IN TURMOIL JUST TO SAVE HIS BAD ARSE!!! and now this SHAMELESS TINDA wants to go back to Pakistan and repeat history in such a short span of time NO WAY!! HE SHOULD BE HUNG!
