He made a blunder worse than 12 Oct 1999, because now he has trapped himself and his family. He is now a virtual prisoner in Jeddah, and whatever the Supreme Court now says is redundant as he will not be allowed back until December 2010. Then if his brother Shabhaz visits him in Jeddah the Saudi’s will probably hold himself as well, and if he visits Pakistan (without Musharraf’s agreement) then he will be deported there as well. From his prison cell in Atoock in late 2000 Nawaz made the agreement with Saudi’s and Lebanese (after the UAE ruler turned him down), so he now he has to live with it, and the consequences.
Interestingtly the only way the PML Nawaz party can now survive is if his brother makes a deal with Musharraf to return to Pakistan just after the Presidential elections. Maybe that is why Shahbaz really chickened out at the last minute and did not return? In true desi tradition where family members will step over others (incl siblings) to get ahead, I believe Shahbaz will do just that.
