If you are confusing "sharia" followers with extremists in Afghanistan/Iraq then yest what you saying makes sense otherwise there is no "correlation".

Sharia in Iran has been implemented by "Ayat-Ullahs" who sit may be at less than 2 mm (i.e. millimeters) from God himself, and you call them extremists? Just ask Shia Muslims and they will tell you with all the details you want.
Same way Mullah Omer was declared Khalifah i.e. Vice-Allah (Allah ka naib) who was sent to earth to establish vice-squads. Again ask Wahabis and they will prove by Quranic ayahs that he brought Shariah.
May be the problem is that we are very romantic about bibi Sharia, however when she removes her hijab, we see the reality, and don't like it.
The so called "progressive" regimes haven't achieved much for Pakistan other than the latest dictatorship gaining few bucks in the bucket. What has been achieved for longer term solution?
That's a valid point. "progressive" regimes have consistently brought socialist mumbo jumbo in the name of Roti kpra makan. They all tried to build a "Welfare state" (Again Sharia connection should be visible to you).
