Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

Comparing Viv's shots to that of Afridi is a criminal offence of the highest level. Please edit, delete or apologize if you want me to continue in this thread.

f&b : You will be surprised to hear that Hook shot is rarely played thesedays....thanks to one bouncer limit. It is always ABOVE the head level my friend. Now don't make me read that BS on BBC.

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

Don't get so touchy. The haughtiness of some cricket fans is totally mind-boggling. Its cricket, mon amie.

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

Cricket fans are supposed to be crazy. How else would they follow this sport?

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

Nope…It is not over head.. It is over SHOULDER…and it is still played but not that regularly…

Now… repeat with me ..

Ball between waist and shoulder =>** PULL**
              Ball above shoulder                     => **HOOK**

And… Yes Bouncer rule is bad.

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

So your previous comment was in a fit of "craziness"? :D

Anyway, coming back to the shot-in-question. I think a "flick" is usually either an edge or a fine cut on the leg side. Hitting the ball on the front foot is more likely a pull. As the batsman is pulling the ball into air.

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

f&b.. your English (and/or your typing) is getting worse with age. Dude, do something about it.

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

:hehe:

I think I have had it enough.

Flick is played to FULL balls on middle and leg stump. It’s all about turning the wrist at the last milli-second. Mostly behind square. It can be air or grounded.

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

I knew ..you will have tough time with typos.

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

FULL balls as opposed to what balls??? :D

My point is a "flick" is not really played on front foot and is played behind square. So the Viv shot-in-question can't be called flick (someone else said that it may be a flick).

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

Flick is not necessarily played behind the square.. You are confusing Flick with leg-glance.

Re: Share your knowledge of cricket terminology

You can drive off the backfoot as well, Sachin for one is famous for those punching drives of his backfoot.
