Re: Share your biggest achievement(s) of 2009

Sara- Graduating is a huge deal. All those years of blood, sweat and tears. So be proud of the fact that you have done and can move on to bigger and better things inshallah.

TLK- It was a law degree but in my final year I concentrated on Islamic Law.

Re: Share your biggest achievement(s) of 2009

Good thread TLK :k:

Achievements are such a relative thing… compared to what I used to accomplish a few years ago, I feel like I haven’t done much this year. Compared to what some of you have done, I feel like I don’t even stand near. Khair, I should be thankful for all I’ve been able to do, because I’ve been blessed with certain opportunities.

In terms of major achievements, I got around to finishing 5 chapters of my PhD dissertation this year, and I’m hoping to finish another 2 over the month of December. That will leave one more to go – inshaAllah hopefully in January.

The past two years have been a drought of sorts cuz I’ve only published a few articles. I’ve been very busy with my f-t job. This year, I taught a couple of new graduate level courses, so got to learn, apply, and teach something new.

In terms of publications, I got one journal article, and two conference papers done – so it’s okay in the context of the other writing I’ve done for my own dissertation.

Alhamdullilah, it was a decent year overall. InshaAllah next year will be much better!

it's related to a certification in Project Management. PMI is the institute which awards it. I am a PMP.
that reminds me I also upgraded my ITIL certification to V3 this yr

That is a great achievement Sweetmoi … what is your major?

I need to talk to you about that. I am always intrigued by Islamic Laws and how do the fit into the normal legal model.

No way samb, that is awesome. So when you used to shave once a quarter, your nick was lamb? :hehe: sorry .. just kidding

Very impressive LC :k:

Awesome SS. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Share your biggest achievement(s) of 2009

(Finally) started studies geared towards getting my designation as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), along with an MBA degree...which reminds me, I better get cracking as I have 3 exams coming up in the next few days :-S

Career wise - Alhumdulillah, I've created my own niche at work as a SME (Subject Matter Expert) when it comes to Unified Messaging...which has helped a lot in surviving cuts at the work place...but at the same time, it's a little frustrating too cuz I've become so indispensible that even just a lateral move to another department was blocked by my manager this year :-S Ah well, all in good time I suppose...Once I'm done with this project next year InshaAllah, I should be able to...

As part of the overall Unified Messaging implementation, did the following for a major client (50K+ employees):

  1. Completed Enterprise mail migrations (Domino/Lotus notes to Exchange 2007/Outlook) – project had been ongoing for 2 years now...
  2. OCS (Office Communications Server) and Communicator 2007 deployments as a common Instant Messaging platform
  3. Live Meeting 2007 enablements as a real-time collaboration/learning and development/presentation tool
  4. SharePoint 2007 portal implementation to replace legacy Notes databases with the Microsoft solution for content management

Next up:

  1. Voice/Phone integration with OCS/exchange...no idea about it @ the moment, but will learn InshaAllah :-D
  2. Active Directory and mail systems integration with new acquisitions by the client...big project, also starting next year InshaAllah...
