Can anybody tell me when they close accepting visas for umrah? I heard there is a time period before hajj in which they close down petitions for umrah, and then after hajj they open it up again after a certain amount of time? How does that work and when will it be this year? Thanks.

I think from the mid or Islamic Month 'Sha'aban till 10th of Muharram.

is this for all countries? I should have a visa application filled out before this coming july 2011?? that is when shabaan will be.

Where I do live they stop giving visas in these months. However, visit visas are open. Not sure about others countries. I say go for it and :insh: everything will be going accordingly as u planned.

There is an easier way to get nearer to Hajr-e-aswad. At certain times of the day, the cleaners cordon off the area around the Ka'aba for cleaning. People who are still inside the cordon around the Hajr-e-aswad corner are allowed to kiss the stone before getting out, while no one else is allowed in. I've never gotten close to the stone during normal time (I'm not that big and muscular lol). You just have to know the cleaners' schedule (ask one of those filling the zam zam coolers etc) or you just get lucky with timing.
