Who: My husband and I

How long TTC: 1.5 years of “waiting to try” so I could sort out my health issues and then 13 months of actually trying to conceive.

Fertility issue: Hypothyroidism and pcos.

Treatment: Synthroid (medication to control thyroid hormone levels) and femara combined with ovidrel to help me ovulate on time and shorten my long and erratic cycles.

Results: I purposely chose a fertility specialist that had been featured in the media numerous times. He is one of the best in the Toronto area. It took 7 months from the time that my family doctor referred me to him, until I was able to get an appointment and actually start treatment (he is that busy). I’m so glad that I did though, because on my 2nd cycle of treatment I conceived by the grace of Allah and this doctor’s help.

Extra Efforts: Pre-seed lubricant (sperm friendly) although to be honest it doesn’t work as well as other lubricants but we stuck with it to increase our chances. And off course lots of prayers.

*The entire time that I was waiting to try and even trying to conceive, I was so down thinking I would never be a mother. In my 2.5 year infertility struggle, 15 babies were born in mine and my husband’s circle of family and friends. I used to think “why me?” when it happens so easily for everyone else. I thought life was not fair. I wish I had been more patient. I look back now and think of the time that I wasted being depressed. I will never get that time back. Also, I feel that I should have shown more sabr so Allah would be more pleased with me. Alhumdolilah he blessed me on my 2nd cycle of treatment. I know others are not always this lucky. My advice to all those trying to conceive is to try to be as positive and patient as you can. Allah has a plan for everyone and he will bless you InshAllah when the time is right for you. *

I’m writing this as my 1 week old beautiful baby girl sleeps soundly in her bassinet. I am now a mother MashAllah and I sincerely hope all you TTC girls will also be mothers very soon! My heart goes out to all of you and you’re in my prayers.
