highball, long, cocktail glasses…which glass do you use to serve drinks?do you use same glasses(i mean sizes and shapes) for dinner and refreshment?
if i serve cold drink to the guests in long glasses which are with stem, should i use small glasses to serve drinks with dinner?
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
I get really annoyed when desi's use wine or cocktail glasses for water, juice or coke.
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
Stoppit u r right - we should only use wine glasses to serve wine...!
Ehem, that means mine will never get used... :(
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
^Exactly!
Well who told you to buy them eh?
We don't have any fancy pants glasses but that's because we don't want to pretend we are drinking wine or champagne when it's actually coke (banned except for when there are guests) or lychee juice.

Same here...our wine glasses, which were a wedding present, are gathering dust in the cupboard. We have never used them. They're rather lovely ones too...sigh
Mr CO onced picked up some freebie wine glasses in a petrol station once, but I used them to serve desserts.
I serve juice in small glasses, and soft drinks/lassis in the bigger ones.
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
NO stemware for juices, coke or water. Definite no-no.
For juice, smaller glasses. For pop or water bigger glasses. There are many many many designs to choose from so you dont need to buy stemware to make your dinner look formal or classy. :)
I did buy martini glasses once a long time ago but I use them for dessert and sometimes to serve non-alcoholic beverages for a girls' night (daiquiries).
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
you mean i shouldnt buy glasses with stems, they are only for alcoholic beverages.
i live in pakistan and have seen many people using stemware.i love them they look good.
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
assume there are guests, first i want to serve refreshment drink then again serve drink with dinner/lunch.which shape of glass is for refreshment?
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
that's because people in pakistan want to copy westerners but are mostly too uncultured (in western etiquette) to do it right.
any glasses will do, just not stemware.
and you can get very beautiful crystal glasses. we use the shorter ones for before dinner drinks such as juice and the longer ones for water or fizzy drinks during meals.
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
interestingly enough, the only place I've seen stemmed glasses being used for juice/soda/water is in pakistan! ... kinda took me by surprise, as my family and I don't use them at all ...
that said ... I agree with the way ... they are pretty ... and so in the end who cares what ppl think. Serve it in whatever you want ... the wine glass doesn't turn water into wine ya know ... :D

Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
I get the having a preference but stemware unless its alcohol is considered a big NO NO? seriously?
I have a set of glasses taht are reserved for "guests" but otherwise we just use one glass all the time
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
We don't have any stem glasses but I would think it would be fine to use them for special non-alcoholic drinks on a party (I'm not talking about a normal dawat that includes every age group), other than that we have special glasses that are for guests and another set of glasses we use everyday

I love stem glasses, and I will use them for any beverage I please. Coke tastes good out of wine glasses. So does juice and ribena.
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
I love stemware and i have a huge variety at home. They're useful, not only for the purpose of serving mocktails, juices etc, but for serving desserts in as well.
I have normal wine glasses, red wine glasses, margarita glasses, assorted shapes of cocktail glasses, martini glasses, pint glasses, champagne flutes, hurricane glasses....and then your bog-standard scotch glasses and hi-ball tumblers.
It's only glass, and it's nice to add a little variation into the mix.

Good for you!
oo I love the look of champagne flutes ![]()
so delicate …
and decanters for that matter …
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
For pre-dinner drinks its small glasses, and for dinner hi-ball glasses.
I've always wondered, if I serve appetisers and lassi pre-dinner, what kind of glass should I be using? I don't want guests to fill up on lassi - so don't think I should use a hi-ball, but does a short glass look right?
Re: shapes & sizes of beverage glasses
Lassi looks better in hi-ball glass - but that's just my personal opinion.
