Re: Shan Oriental Spices

I haven't found these at the desi store either.. Will it say Shan oriental Spice or am i looking for something else?

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

oh i bought a bunch yesterday..did u follow the recipe exactly????

i didnt get the noodles and rice one....but i should!

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

Yes coolgirl, Shan Oriental Recipes is what they are called. They come in different packaging than the regular Shan masalas. As your desi store folks to order them.

So far, I've made just the noodles and they were brilliant. I followed the recipe exactly, but I did add more noodles and veggies and chicken as Shan is usually more salty that we eat at home, so it worked out great.

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

I've used Shaan oriental.. They turn out pretty good. So far I made Indonesian Steaks, noodles, chinese rice, chicken manchurian, and two three other kinds.

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

I have tried noodles and chinese rice …they turned out good :k:

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

(sorry niksik i just shared what i think..not to criticize u or somethingelse:) )

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

Uetian, I noticed that as well. :bummer: Once in a while use should be OK though.

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

My favorite Chinese restaurant has a sign that says “No MSG.” What is MSG? Is it bad for you?
Answer
from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavor enhancer commonly added to Chinese food, canned vegetables, soups and processed meats. Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified MSG as a food ingredient that’s “generally recognized as safe,” the use of MSG remains controversial. For this reason, when MSG is added to food, the FDA requires that it be listed on the label.

MSG has been used as a food additive for decades. Over the years, the FDA has received many anecdotal reports of adverse reactions to foods containing MSG. These reactions — known as MSG symptom complex — include:

* Headache
* Flushing
* Sweating
* Facial pressure or tightness
* Numbness, tingling or burning in face, neck and other areas
* Rapid, fluttering heartbeats (heart palpitations)
* Chest pain
* Nausea
* Weakness

However, researchers have found no definitive evidence of a link between MSG and these symptoms. Researchers acknowledge, though, that a small percentage of people may have short-term reactions to MSG. Symptoms are usually mild and don’t require treatment. The only way to prevent a reaction is to avoid foods containing MSG.

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

shan copied knorr.... ive tried both.. the latter are way better! their sweet and sour chicken mix is amazing!

i dont use them all the time cuz they like someone already said.. are loaded with msg... but sometimes when you just cant be bothered to cook from scratch... its great!

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

I have never tried the Knorr ones. We don't get them here...just the soup mixes.

Re: Shan Oriental Spices

Yep, Knorr is much much better.
