Sorry - compared to some of the more important, serious issues being discussed in this Forum, i realize this is a very insignificant, trivial ‘girly’ issue. Maybe it doesn’t really fit in. i was just wondering which shampoo/conditioner do you gals use? It would help to know what kind of climate you guys are in as well (dry/moist etc).
i use herbal essence shampoo n conditioner..
but when i go out n stuff.. i use paul mitchell super skinny daily shampoo n conditionr.. its really good cus when i use a flat hair iron my hair.. they get really nice n sleeek..
Back to Basics Sunflower Shampoo and Conditioner
But sometimes when my hair can do without the moisturiser, I LOVE to use the sleepy time Baby Shampoo :Pretty:
There's so many shampoos and conditioners out there its hard to recommend just one. I'm a big fan of Kerastase, Tigi and Aveda hair products but it depends on what suits you.
However try not to buy shampoos and conditioners with silicones in. They make your hair seem soft and shiny the first couple of uses because its coating your hair shaft with silicones, but after a while it just makes your hair dull as its hard for the shampoo to clean thoroughly. Water based silicone (found in more expensive salon standard shampoos) is okay as it washes out with each shampoo.

The regular market shampoos are diluted and full of chemicals

Nothing at all wrong with regular market shampoos. They are designed with enormous multi million dollar research and development budgets behind to ensure that regular usage leads to healthy, beautiful hair. And in the case of the brand leaders, this has been proven and trusted by millions of satisfied consumers across the world.
Maddy is right, not all 'regular' shampoos are necessarily any less better than salon shampoos. For example Tescos own brand shampoo is made my Paul Mitchell. The shampoo in the bottles is exactly the same but you're just paying three times as much for the nicer bottle.
Deviliciousss - hey i use herbal essences too (Clairol). i’ve used almost everything from Revlon’s outrageous, the Kiwi stuff, Pantene, Pears, Tresemme, Johnson’s, Vatika.
MS - A salonist told me that Pantene isn’t good…dries out your hair. But every hair type is so different, what’s true for me won’t necessarily be true for you.
Ira, Back2Basics sounds good. Do they claim it is made out of all natural stuff?
CocoNut - i’m cheap, i’m not going to pay $30 for a small bottle of salon shampoo
Shahreen - Thanks for the awesome tip. How can you find out whether or not it has silicones in it? Now that i try to think about it, i don’t seem to remember any shampoo (i’ve used) really stating anything about silicones on the containers. Is it usually printed somewhere on the bottle?
That's true, actually the bottles aren't always mini-sized.
Sharafat_Ka_Namouna, i heard that too from a salonist. The reasoning behind it (according to her) is that chemical residue builds up over time if you keep utilizing the same brand of shampoo. Changing the brands gives some 'breathing space' (so to speak) to your hair; the same residue isn't building up over time into your hair.
i also heard something else, a bit more dubious. Some Brit band had done this a long time back and it was all over the news.... i think it was "Take that" - that band of five Brit guys. One of them refused to use shampoo in his hair for six months, because he said he didn't want his hair filled with gunk and chemicals. All he did was wash his hair every day, sometimes twice a day, with water.

Yes in the 'ingredients'.
Its often named something a bit different though, not just 'Silicone' but i can't remember what the other name is. Let me get back to you with that.
I wonder which of our competitors was giving that salonist preferential deal on hair care products
Pantene has not been shown in any trials to have a drying effect on hair. If it had such an effect, it would not have been launched without further enhancement
It used to be true, but the larger manufacturing companies understood this issue and spent many years and a vast fortune on researching ways to solve this problem.
If you buy a leading brand product, you should generally evade this issue.
My hair texture doesn't allow me to use any shampoo/conditioner for more than a few months.... i used to use TIMOTIE Aloe vera a few months ago,now im shifted to super soft herbal shampoo and its working fine for me .... :)
I am always conscious of my hair type while selecting one.
i dont have any specific shampoo .. i'll use whatever is available.. from pantene to head n shoulders to even those dollar ones :D ( that was a desperate situation).
I also switch often. I use moisturizing shampoo and conditioners here in the Eastern US. Winter makes my hair so dry. I like Pantene, Vidal Sasoon, and a few of the Herbal Essence. I always use conditioner - summer, winter, always. I also use mousse every day because my hair is naturally curly. With the mousse, I like the long soft, flowing curls without the mousse - I look like a frizzy freak!hehe Do people with straight hair have to use so much stuff on their hair?
