The marriages I know of where it was a fake but they still “pulled it off” are cases where the 2 people are not strangers. They’re usually friends who’re “helping” one another and while married, they actually do live together (but are not sexually involved). Hence when USCIS does ask them questions about their partner or daily lives, they’re convincing as a “couple” and also, any visits by USCIS doesn’t matter since they actually do live as room mates.

Employment based green cards also have their own set of conditions that must be met. For starters…you can not apply for it unless an employer is willing to sponsor you. In addition, U.S. citizenship through marriage is a lot faster through marriage than employment. As the spouse of a U.S. citizen, you’re highter in the priority chain.

Yes, they are usually friends or introduced to each other for this purpose by a third party.
