Shalwar kameez

How often do you wear it???

Do you wear the “traditional” kind

or the modified ones

What has affected the way you dress?

and…would you go to a mall in shalwar kameez (if youre not in pak)

Re: Shalwar kameez

Mostly I live in jeans; it's easier to tinker about with stuff without a duppatta getting in the way. Occasionally shalwar kameez, traditional and modified; these days mainly patiala shalwars with short/high suits, because it makes my sister happy when she sees me in them.
Yes, I would/have gone out in shalwar kameez.

Re: Shalwar kameez

I love wearing shalwar qameez. I mostly have traditional ones and I have no issues wearing them to the Mall or anywhere.

Re: Shalwar kameez

^yea same...i hv gone out in it too...the same way im confortable going out without makeup..so i guess it boils down to how comfortable u feel

Re: Shalwar kameez

I think people in the USA don't really care...I've never got any "looks" from anyone. I feel comfortable.

Re: Shalwar kameez

I only wear salwaar kameez on eid and culture day. I would never consider wearing salwaar kameez to a mall.

Re: Shalwar kameez

i have 2 shalwar suits and i really like them....i'll buy more if i go to pak.

Re: Shalwar kameez

I love wearing shalwar Qameez and I don't mind wearing them in mall as far as they are simple and not formal ones.

Re: Shalwar kameez

When growing up, I often hated wearing shalwar kamiez, or frok pajama, because children at school used to laugh at my clothes and call me all kinds of nasty nicknames because of my Pakistani clothes. My parents mostly didn't allow me to wear western clothes, not even in school, not even when I was miserable because of all the negativity surrounding my shalwar kamiez. I really disliked, hated wearing it. (I live in Holland). Nowadays I do wear it with pleasure. Nowadays Dutch people wear fashion that looks a lot like Pakistani clothing and sometimes it's almost literally Pakistani clothing, I get less nasty looks for my shalwar kamiez and most people nowadays don't care what you wear, except when you go to work, for some reason at work they make a lot of problems over shalwar kamiez. Anyway, now that I can choose what I wear, I enjoy wearing both shalwar kamiez and western clothes.

Re: Shalwar kameez

^i think we all feel that when we are younger, i never wore it in school though and I dont think I would have liked that. A lot of parents think "shalwar kameez" is the most modest for desi muslim girls and the best way to latch onto their roots, but u can wear any dress properly. It's funny no one even thinks about this for boys.

Re: Shalwar kameez

I wear Shalwar Qamis, mostly when I am home and sometimes even when I go out. I have also been to a mall wearing a shalwar and a T-Shirt. So, I guess you can understand how much I care for people's thinking of my sense of dressing. :p

Re: Shalwar kameez

^hahahah love it!!! daat detey hon haha

Re: Shalwar kameez

Shalwaar Qameez is not an islamic symbol dress so I always prefer long skirts and shirts over them.Skirts cover you very well also.I only wear Shalwar Qameez at home sometimes or rarely outside.

Re: Shalwar kameez

sadly but i never wore shalwar kameez, i bought one few years back but never wore it.

Re: Shalwar kameez

I love desi dresses , but I have something against the salwar  .. I just dont like it … So I have all my kameezes with trousers or pijamas :sadiyah:

I have never felt awkward wearing my asian dresses anywhere … I wear them to the mall, to the library , to the hospital ! yeah some people give me wierd looks , but then who cares … someone passing by with hair dyed pink , wouldnt we look at them wierdly?

Once I was in Ikea, we were going to a dawat right after , so I was wearing a really flary , flowy anarkali with heels … this little british girl ( 7 years) came upto me and said , “I love your frock” :cb: … I loved it and had a smile on my face all evening :cb:
