Shalwar issue

The typical and traditional shalwars have now totally gone out of fashion. Since 2009-10 I guess. (I had to strictly tell my mom to stop getting them sewn if she wanted to be inline with the trend)

So, do you think the shalwars will ever be back in? I am honestly loving the pants/azaars!!! Theyre awesome, pretty and classier. Churidaars are in too nowadays but not practical like the pants. I never really liked the capris and patialas, they came and went but these azaar and similar are great.

What do you think- will they remain in fashion? Will anything change? Know anyone who still likes the normal shalwars?

Re: Shalwar issue

raises hand I still like normal shalwar, wanting to wear it is another story. lol.

Re: Shalwar issue

  • i raise my hands too *

i like the normal shalwar along with the patiayla, i dont like the trouser look :naraz:

and to be honest i never wear something because its in ’ trend ’

i only wear what I like, whether its in fashion or not :snooty:

I like them too. And still wear them. :-/

Re: Shalwar issue

i wear shalwar all the time, and i love it. only have a few suits with the wide pants.

Re: Shalwar issue

I wore a shalwar for Eid this year.

I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve them!

I wear them too but at home. ;D I'm overseas so everyone gets the new fashion and follows them like in Pak.

Re: Shalwar issue

LOVE shalwar! Hate the whole trouser suit things! they don't do anyone any favours in my opinion!

Re: Shalwar issue

I guess I'm in the minority here. I've always hated shalwaars and I always gravitated towards churidaars so I'm loving this new trend.

Re: Shalwar issue

When I first went to Pakistan, in 1979, and wore a shalwar qamiz for the first time, I thought, "My God, this is the most comfortable outfit on the planet! How can I go out in public in this?? It's like going out in your jammies, it is so comfy!"

Personally, I think the traditional shalwar is very graceful. I think trousers and churidaar are not nearly as comfortable, graceful or flattering. And moreover, since most desi women get no real walking exercise, they have very scrawny calves and so churidaar don't look that good on most. Whereas, s-q make everybody look good -- fat people look skinny and skinny people look like they've got some meat on them...

surprised by the answers. I'm guessing overseas pakistanis wear less of the traditional shalwar now (except at home) cuz everyone follows latest trends. In the small Pakistani community here, everyone wears the latest pant and I wore a shalwar once and felt out of the place.

Re: Shalwar issue

I've always worn pants before this trend started and hated shalwaars bcuz of the narrow bottom wider top look, as it make ones fat. So no, no shalwars for me...

Re: Shalwar issue

I can't wait for salwars to come back in style i miss wearing them and would feel dumb if i was the only one in the room in salwar and a shorter kameez you know?

Re: Shalwar issue

I hate shalwars too. I have never worn them even when shalwars were in.

Re: Shalwar issue

Shalwars shall remain in fashion coz they are close to tradition and traditional things remain in trends more or less.

Re: Shalwar issue

i dont like them now...only liked the tight salwars were in the fashion few years b4...

Re: Shalwar issue

bump bump. 2 years down and i think hardly any one wears them shalwars!!! :D

Re: Shalwar issue

I wear shalwars at home :D

Re: Shalwar issue

i wear shalwars all the time. it's so comfy and easy to sit in indian-style. churidaars are good for fancy events but shalwars are amazing everyday!

Re: Shalwar issue

Don't like shalwars after they went out of style. I wear, plazzaos, culottes, leggings and churidar. At home too I try to wear culottes. I hope shalwars don't come back at elats for formal wear. Here too in our pakistani community, people wear the latest fashion.
