**Shakil Afridi case will be reviewed, Nawaz assures US: Report

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assured US congressmen and activists during his recent visit to the US that his government will reconsider Dr Shakil Afridi’s case, Fox News reported.
According to the report, Nawaz – in a private meeting with congressional representatives and a non-government individual – committed to task law officials with reviewing the prosecution process for Afridi.
Reportedly, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Ed Royce with Robert Lorsch of the Free Afridi Campaign “heavily pressured the Pakistani leadership about releasing the doctor and allowing him a life in the United States.”
Lorsch told Fox News: “What they (Pakistani government) do with Dr Afridi is how Pakistan will be judged as a democracy by the rest of the world.’”
“This was first time that the leadership in Pakistan realized the importance of Dr Afridi not as a political bargaining tool but as a symbol of how freedom-loving American people regard Pakistan,” Lorsch added.
For Americans, Dr Afridi’s release is the only yardstick for judging democracy in Pakistan. We have yet to see a report which tells that our prime minister pressurized the Americans on Dr Aafiz in private meeting.

True democracy is a government which is by people for the people of United States of America, if local people try to run the government there will be a "revolution" against it. When someone created the definition of democracy they forgot to pass the full definition but only passed parts of it "by the people for the people".

Shakil Afridi is an escape goat, he should be released. The real responsibility lies on the people who hid him for so many years in the midst of an army garrison and later sh!ting in khaki pants when Seals came, did their operation and left without any resistance.

because they were both convicted by their respective courts. how can Obamma ask for one and NOT do the same for the other.
if N$ pushed this argument, he didn't have to re-evaluate Afridi's case but again US thinks it can pressure the other governments but it can't be.

Agreed, only if the secret agreements were revealed many generals/top-armymen would be considered traitors but still not tried. However, Shakil Afridi was tried and convicted by court (though the conviction was turned over and re-prosecution is on-going) so he must stay in jail for that until final result is out (which very likely will mean he will be out once the money is transferred to judge and N$).
