What kind of utter nonsense is this??? Being a Muslim country, how could he say such things about fasting!!! It is just mind boggling…if you don’t know how to treat your own people properly how do you expect other countries to do so.
It is a real shame…players like Hashim Amla and other Muslim international players are doing roza without issues and this guy get removed for doing roza in an Islamic country!!!
re: Shakeel Abasi (Pak Hockey), REMOVED from training camp for Fasting!!!!
^did you watch the video? Did you see the way the person had justified it? It is a disgrace..it was as if he was saying Pakistan is more important than his fasting...is that something a Muslim should say to another Muslim? If something like this happened in any other country..there would have been a big uproar!
re: Shakeel Abasi (Pak Hockey), REMOVED from training camp for Fasting!!!!
But is it really necessary to take part in Asia cup now? Just to get that place in the world cup next year? Pakistan finished very poor 7th in the world league recently. They will hardly qualify for the world cup - very first time we going to miss the world cup.
re: Shakeel Abasi (Pak Hockey), REMOVED from training camp for Fasting!!!!
After the west changed the rules of the game starting circa early 70s to neutralize (neuter seems more applicable) the Indians and Pakistanis, Hokey Pokey seems far more interesting. Do they have bully-off? Do tell.
re: Shakeel Abasi (Pak Hockey), REMOVED from training camp for Fasting!!!!
First, Akhrar Rasool is a legend. A superstar. He is not an idiot.
Second, while my Urd is not that good, I listened to entire video. Mr. Rasool did not insult anyone. He has one mission. To ensure Pakistan does well in the Tournament.
3), it is my understanding that the Pakistan Hockey Federation made the rule about the fasting. (Maybe Mr. Rasool had some say). Once a rule is. in place, a good coach implements it. To ensure there is discipline.
Fourth. The captain Mr. Abasi had a choice. Show up for training camp and follow the rules of the camp. Or stay home. He was not forced to NOT do his religious duty. He was given a choice. Life is like that. We get to make some hard choices.
5) the interviewers question was puzzling. " why is training camp so important since tournament is so far away?" I thought Mr. Rasool answered that question with restraint and dgnity. In fact he did that throughout the interview.
6) Could the Federation have done axbetter job being sensitive to Abasis faith? Of course. But as far as Mr. Rasool is concerned he is coaching the Pakistan Hockey team. His goal as he stated is to win gold.
7) calling names such as idiot and moron - not especially religious. And calling an all time great such name? I cant state my opinion here.
re: Shakeel Abasi (Pak Hockey), REMOVED from training camp for Fasting!!!!
^OK..but really?Telling someone that Allah will forgive you if you don't fast but Pakistan will not if you don't make a goal..that is just utter crap!
I am not a very religious person, actually I don't even have a religion...but I have always defended someone's faith..and saying something like that is just stupid. He could have said it lot of different ways...but not the way he said it.
Re: Shakeel Abasi (Pak Hockey), REMOVED from training camp for Fasting!!!!
So has Akhtar Rasool been vindicated?
Roza rakh kar training karo gey tau phir aisey hi results aayein gey. Shakeel could have deferred his fasts
It is just humanly impossible to both fast and play a physical sport like hockey
My 2 cents
I doubt that. If he wasnt vindicated on the day he removed Abbasi then he wont be vindicated now.
Professional sports which require highest level of athleticism cant go along with fasting or abstaining from certain stuff. Its simple, but if they didnt understand it then, then they wont understand it now.
